    Some advice please

Good to know, my Leader LSG-231 manual says it outputs a composite signal of L-R, L+R, L, and R at 1 kHz. I wish I had a spectrum analyzer. But then there would be a whole new steep learning curve. I just downloaded and printed the Service Manual. Time for some studious reading.

    Some advice please

Right! I have a Leader LSG-231 FM Stereo Signal Generator and I am not sure if it needs any attention prior to attempting a tuner alignment. My oscilloscope is a Tektronix 2235 (100 MHz) and i think it is up to the task.

PL 700 II REPLACEMENT MAIN VOLUME POTS

And, they are only $3.81 each. I believe these excellent Bourns Potentiometers have the round shaft. So if your PL700 II has the newer knobs for the flattened shaft, you will have to file a "D" shape into the shaft. The cut along the shaft should be 0.250" (1/4") long and 0.090" (3/32") deep...

    Some advice please

What upgrades/servicing are you doing to the Carver TX-11? I have a TX-11a and I believe it is unmolested. I was planning to recap and align the tuning section someday. Right now my go-to tuner is a Phase Linear 5000. It likely needs some alignment as well.

PL 700 II REPLACEMENT MAIN VOLUME POTS

In the above schematic, C2, the 470nF (.47uF) capacitor is not a low pass filter. It is a DC blocking capacitor, in circuit when the DC/Normal Switch is set to Normal and blocking frequencies below 40Hz. The DC/Normal Switch bypasses C2 for Inputs down to DC. The low pass filter is located on...

    Some advice please

Let me add a few points here. Yes, a well behaved Phase Linear Series II amplifier is a thing of joy. And if it only has a few issues, spending $5 and a few hours of your time may provide many more years of use. However, let us see what a (generic) $350.00 WOPL upgrade can give you: 1. The...

    Some advice please

Are these the Phase linear 700B or 700 Series II amplifiers? The shop likely charges $80.00-$100..00 per hour labor. Many technicians on this Forum will charge less. Just food for thought. And, four months to wait for a diagnostic is ridiculous. You mentioned the amplifiers are being serviced...

Good idea. These are made in China, the specifications may be "market optimized" or rounded to next higher audiophile level.

    WOPL 700 series II build

Same thing I use to clean the boards prior to soldering. For cleaning the flux off, I use this: The MG Chemical people in Canada make some good stuff.

What do you use to clean the flux from the board? Apparently, it is working!

Ah, the Altec 422-8Z Altec’s answer to JBL’s legendary D130 (and variants) woofers. To answer the usefulness found in JBL’s watershed D130, many years later .. Altec designed this excellent woofer -- a beautiful combination of Altec’s best 416 style Altec frame, with a special tighter, lower...

I was on the Internet (NSFNET) in 1986. A local guy, graduate student who advertised in the San Diego Union Tribune, set up a 56kbit/s backbone connection in his strip mall location to one of the super computers in San Diego, the San Diego Supercomputing Center (SDSC) on the campus of the...

    Phase Linear Serial Numbers

Don, your serial number (18323) must be very near the end of 1978. It is a high number for a PL400 (not Series II).

    How About A Nixie Clock

No issue, I like mine even though it is not as accurate as I thought it would be. I would prefer that it would be a bit slow, then I could just add a minute or two each month. Because it is fast, I have to cycle through the whole hour and sometimes I get a switch bounce and then I have to do it...
