Yet another dumb question; basically, how can I tell if my PL 700 is clipping. My new (less efficient) RCF subs produce 92 db w/ 1 watt at 1 meter. Specs claim 97.5 db but this is probably broad band, below 150 Hz, I'm getting 92. My goal is concert level sound but better than PA...

"WOPl" -ing my Phases I have 3 PL 700's. My first is a 700 (not B), I was told it was used by The Who, I bought it from "Triumph" in Toronto. It blew up once on me, years ago. I dragged it from shop to shop before I could find some one to tackle it. The pl 909 outputs were available at that...

    Best Monster Amp

Hi Guys, Still looking for an amp to power my RCF subs. I'm pretty sure I can hear my old PL 700 clipping when I re-arrange the living room furniture with some 120 db Pink Floyd. I am considering a QSC RMX 5050 or a Crest CA-18. Has anyone have any experience or advice with or regarding...

    Bridging a PL 700B

Thanks laatsch55; I will keep your amp in mind, I will look for a schematic and more specs. The RCF drivers have a 1500 Watt "AES" power rating. So I am looking for an amp that can get the most out of them. In hind sight, should have spent the bucks on the JBL drivers.

    Bridging a PL 700B

I have played with a lot of BGW 750's, They were used for the sensurround systems in theatres in the 70's. I wish I kept one. They were very reliable, with a nice modular design, but I don't think they had quite the same punch as my Phase Linear 700's. The PL 700's have those crazy + & - 100 V...

My Line Array This is my line array design. The cabinet is 84" tall so it will fit in a listening room with 8 foot ceilings. The cone drivers are over lapped to keep centre to centre distances of the drivers to less than 5" to allow true "line radiation" (minimal interference pattern) up to 2...

    Bridging a PL 700B

Hi P.L.F.; I will send pics asap. I used 16 drivers, 5-1/4" each. Slightly overlapped to allow use up to 2kHz. Drivers had to be 5-1/4" to allow use down to 100 Hz. I have raised the crossover point 120 Hz to safely produce 120 db at a 4 or 5 meter distance. Pictures coming soon.

    Bridging a PL 700B

Hi Northwinds; I have a large listening room. I built my house around my sound system. The room is approx. 24 by 35 feet, 17 ft ceiling. I was using 2 Cerwin-Vega M horns in the corners,(sensurround style). Very efficient above 40 Hz, mostly noise below that. I did not want to spend $5k on...

    Bridging a PL 700B

Down sides to Bridging Thanks for the comments so far. I'm guessing that bridging might be safer with the output transistors changed to ON MJ21196's. I have changed one channel of one amp. (That was the end of a $400 JBL driver) Specs suggest a great improvement over the plx909's. Is damping...

    Bridging a PL 700B

Hello Everyone; I have just finished my new (sub)woofer cabinets, (two for stereo because I need to cross over at 100 or 120 Hz), basically copying the JBL 4645c. I am using RCF LF18X401 drivers. They have a 50 mm max cone excursion but are about 3 db less efficient than the JBL woofers...
