Advise Needed - Gain Pot and Deoxit

Well, if you read the thread for my 700B, in the end, I found out it was NOT the filter tape. I went back and took each and every one of them apart, and the tape had NOT been changed by me at all. It was indeed the LED's that had gradually dimmed over time as Joe had said. I ended up replacing...

Advise Needed - Gain Pot and Deoxit

Thanks George. That was going to be my next question. What kind of resistance do they give? aka. "How do they feel" when turning? If I have to replace ONE, I'd replace BOTH, so they matched.

    My Father's Continuing Saga........

Below in the stack I tested my father's amp with the new board and switch installed. The highs the amp is on can now match the meter swings of the lows the 700B's are on thanks to the switch. Great for Bi-amp set-ups. And YES. I do love the show. Also added, youtube links of the dim feature and...

    My Father's Continuing Saga........

Alright. So Joes Rev C Light Board FINALLY showed up two weeks ago. My fathers old Rev A. Board came out and the one I ordered December 4th (Rev C) went in. With almost 70hour work weeks I just haven't been able to get to it and other matters a couple weekends shot that. But TODAY I finally...

    wood cabinet?

I make sure to have one on every amp. W.O. or not. Pushing it in any circumstance gets 'em too warm for MY tastes. Plus it's just good practice. I have a couple ready to get installed.........................................

Advise Needed - Gain Pot and Deoxit

This has question has probably already been addressed somewhere else in another thread I'd imagine, but for the sake of this particular thread allow me to ask; Do we have a preferred Bourns part# for the 700B Attenuator pots? Out of nine amps I have maybe 7 scratchy ones. I'm thinking about just...

    Fred's Toob amp(s) build.

My father used to have an Audio Research D76 Amp along with a matching SP-3 Pre. Had to sell about ten years ago because of the High Prices of replacing all the Tubes. Sweet Sound but ornery expensive to keep maintained.

    My Father's Continuing Saga........

Yep. I’m fighting the temptation right now. It’s more like 11 amps. The ninth is sitting there on top of boxes (above) and my brother saw fit to remind me of HIS two. Sooo I’d surely be busy for a while. And broke. I’ll steal one of Lee’s quoted lines.... “You’ve not reached the point of...

    David's Phase Linear 700B Thread

Agreed. No NEED for it. But the OCD in me prefers the symetrical match. I have more than enough power on the low end. And it’ll probably only get worse when I white Oak them. Then no need to double up on amps for the lows. I’d rather use em to drive yet another pair of speaks.

    David's Phase Linear 700B Thread

Naturally. This picture was taken in 2001. Long before I had this many 700B's. At this particular time in history; I used the PL700B wired in a parallel configuration resulting in what I believe was a 4-ohm load at the time for just the Low end. I ran a single 400 to each set of speakers for...

    David's Phase Linear 700B Thread

Thanks for all your help guys on the WOPL400 Build for my father. I learned SO much from doing it myself. And of course put it out there to be critiqued. I take all the good and bad. I wanted it to be successful and was very glad to hear that everyone liked how it went. I can turn my attention...

    My Father's Continuing Saga........

Yeah, youtubes upload time sucks in HD. On top of that; I wasn’t willing to risk anything beyond Mach-9 for longer than that. Literally just got new neighbors. And I don’t know if they like to party..........YET.

    My Father's Continuing Saga........

FINAL LISTENING TEST: I got the time to hook up the amp Finally to a REAL system for a final listening test. I had to move the wife's work-out equipment around to get to the back of the 360lb. speakers. It went on the Bi-Amped High end while a PL700B drove the lows on one of my sets of...

    My Father's Continuing Saga........

I don't know if I'd like that 'GAP' per se'. Perhaps; should the market ever warrant it; Joe may make available a new chassis for the 400 that's a tad deeper; to compensate for the better components. I doubt it, since the 700B is the better choice there and a hot ticket item, but you never know...

    My Father's Continuing Saga........

I just reordered some more Bridge Rectifiers. I said earlier in my post I used a 30A in the PL400 Build. But according to this here Mouser bag I got in 2013; It says they are 50Amp. Well....I guess it does it's job. I also ordered the snubbers that Perry says he likes to use. This go: I got the...

    My Father's Continuing Saga........

You can't beat that beautiful face of a Phase Linear. Nothing today even looks HALF as good. And in this day and age you think something WOULD? But let's agree here that after Joe's stuff get's in it; there's not much "Vintage" about it excepts it's looks. Basically think of any '69 muscle car...
