TDK CDing 2 vs Sony HF

Thanks, Jim! I had the impression that CDing 2 was a cheaper formula than SA. Good to know it's the same. The shell isn't a major problem as it's the same as D and quite good.

TDK CDing 2 vs Sony HF

Mostly rock. I have some of the late EU made HF. They are sounding very good. I haven't tried the Mexico made. I never have tried a CDing 2. I have heard not so good comments. I know they aren't Super Avilyn. The other non SA TDK I have tried is AD 2 and it sounds OK.

TDK CDing 2 vs Sony HF

Well, it's the week of questions!!! Anyway, as the title says, I have a project and I need a lot of some c46. I can find the above cassettes both new and at the same price. The TDKs are type II but entry level while the Sonys are type I but not the low end. Which one would you preferred...

    "Tonar" stylus, opinions?

A piece of metal? I truly don't know (but the hammer sounds good, though). As for a diamond tip that is shaped and polished, I'm not an expert, but I guess polishing leaves some irregularities on the surfaces that are rubbing with the groove's walls. So, it needs some wearing for these...

    "Tonar" stylus, opinions?

I bought a Tonar stylus for my Stanton 681EEE to try. It's a cheap replacement and I wasn't expecting a lot. Well, I was impressed! It has a very detailed sound and great highs. The only drawback is that it sounds tight and not "open". I hope after break in it will be OK. Has anyone tried them?

    Cd artifacts

I totally agree, Jim. A sinus wave that has been like a saw in it's digital form, it will be restored as a saw with smoothed teeth by the analog part of the DAC. But it never will be as close to the original. I don't know, though, if there are existing some more sophisticated DACs with...

    Cd artifacts

I see. But how a DAC can restore a waveform who's stractural info has been lost in the digital form?

    Cd artifacts

I guess that at high frequencies there is a sort of dithering (Wikipedia). How I perceive this "dithering" is that at high frequencies, the sample rate isn't enough to "drow" the waveform with accuracy. This leads to zones where the amplitude is as the original and zones where the amplitude is...

    Cd artifacts

When it comes to CD quality digital sound, can you hear any sampling artifacts? If yes, what kind of? I can definitely hear the cymbals not fading smoothly. And they have something of a metallic colouring).

    Telefunken TC 750 - A new challenge!

Exceptional job, Vince!!! Thank you for your detailed presentation. I like reading about restorations. It's like reading Playb... ehh, ehmmm, I mean National Geographic. I read for things I will never see in person. :D Truly, I admire the courage and patience the restorer must have. I don't....

    Thank you, Miracle Mile!!!

    Cassette decks RF shielding

I didn't expected an old declining format to be so well sophisticated engineered. In the '90s the interesting to cassette had started fading. I admire the cassette every day, a little more! I'm glad I came back.

    Cassette decks RF shielding

Well, I was recording with my Technics cassette deck and my cell phone rung. The phone was resting very close to the deck (how stupid I was!!!). But I didn't heard any interference. So, I guess it's shielded. This particular deck is an RS-B965. It was made at the early '90s when most devices of...

    Cheap cassettes at *Warmalt

This shell looks familiar. I have to do a search. Transparent doesn't necessarily mean bad. The '90s TDK AD were quite transparent with a cherry color but you can call them great tapes. Thanks for the presentation!

How do you determine when to replace a stylus?

I have read it again. It seems that using lower VTF can result in groove/stylus excessive wear, when someone would expect the opposite. To my ears, using too little force affects the sound badly, too. So, I always track my stylii near their upper force limit. When I had been given my TTs, one's...

    Cheap cassettes at *Warmalt

Please, do try these tapes and report here your opinion! They don't have nice critics on other places but it would be interesting to hear one more. Living in EU it's difficult to find one to test myself but I'm still curious...

    Friggin’ gravity…

Yes, it's the same thing. Yep, a guide will be useful! Edit: it could be better if you remove the old glue residue with a mild solvent.

    Friggin’ gravity…

If I can see correctly, it looks like granite. If it is really granite it is dangerous to drill it to put pins in. So, glue is the best choice. 3M has some great double sided tapes. The only disadvantage is that since it's stuck, you can't reorient it. You have to put it straight from the...

    Friggin’ gravity…

I would use rubber glue. It's mild and it can be removed easily if anything goes wrong. It can harm some paints, though.

Arm resonance - the anal way

:) You reminded me of an old joke we said here... "In a boat, in the middle of a lake, there are three passengers: one is a pro in biology, the other is a pro in physics and the third is a pro in maths. The first asked the boatman: - Do you know anything about biology? - No (replied the...
