I have a M91ED on my everyday TT. Not a bad cart at all. But no special, either. It gives a clear sound, on the bright side but it lacks somehow on the details. It can't stand against my other TT's Stanton 681EEE. (both TT are exactly the same)

One definitely can lap (even relap) a permalloy head with ease. Since I lapped my first head (a same as Alex's from a 965) I then lapped all my 3-headers. Never regret it. Although my approach is a little bit different, the result is the same. And exceptional.
