    RCA plugs / contacts

Thats exactly what I have seen, Amphenol for about 2$/piece while Chinese are about 1$. That means 20pcs for 20$ vs 40$. Is there a reason to go for more expensive? My opinion is that a cable is what matters, plug is just a plug.

    RCA plugs / contacts

Have about 5 meters of a good cable and thinking to replace standard cables I'm using to hook up all equipment (CD, MD, deck and so on). What I need is RCA plugs and there ARE lot of them on market. Wondering if there is really some difference between them. The one can get 20-pack from Amazon...

    HF loss - general

Can be both first and second. Fact is that I can't feel any "lines" under the nail, don't know, maybe there is some wear I can't see. Dont have microscope to see. Have checked by zooming a photo, couldn't see nothing special. Maybe it was so from a first "factory" day but I dont believe it would...

    HF loss - general

Alex just knows how equipment is breathing. If aliens would crash on the earth he would be able to fix their spaceship and to upgrade it with a cassette stereo :) So much about Alex. What Nikola Tesla was for electricity, Alex is for audio equipment. It is sad that he dont have some kind of...

    HF loss - general

Don't believe caps are out of specs, I have used only Nichi and Pana from DigiKey. Soldered carefully and quickly, at 390 degree Celsius. Now when you are saying, it can be a same problem with my heads thus mine doesn't look bad. There is signs of use but not groove. Planning to buy new one and...

    HF loss - general

To start with, test tape (ANT is a great choice), gauge for head adjustment and multimeter are ground. Without those 3 tools the one should absolutely not touch a head screws. If a head is not properly adjusted or dirty there is no need to check other things. To say, healthy tape path and...

OK, but question still remains, what is a reason my deck was so off?!

    HF loss - general

Thank you for advice Alex. I'm sure that many of us here on forum would be grateful if you could explain what is the reason of such behavior of decks. Is it about a wear of the heads or maybe oxidation of trimpots or degradation of some components. For example, I did total recap on a deck we are...

    HF loss - general

Well Vince, reason for "inversion" between blue and light blue line can easily be wrong bias as you suggest me to adjust. I'll first check resistance on VR301 & VR302 and will write it down. Will make a pdf file with everything what is done/replaced/modified on my decks. Much easier to work...

    HF loss - general

Here is what I could do: R95 and R96 are regulating frequencies from about 2kHz and up (doesn't affecting frequencies below 2kHz). As you can see there is some kind of inversion between channels, while "light blue" is lower than "blue" at low frequencies, at high frequencies situation is...

Here is how bias is adjusted now. Will test with trimmers and see if I can flat it.

    HF loss - general

Opening a "bad one" (reed line on the last picture) that have a HF loss, now. Will chase 10 and 16kHz. Unsealed new UDII-CD for tests, can be better choice than TDK D. Be back soon...

Thanx for advice Makymak, I'll do that under the day. That way we can isolate problem to the smaller area.

    HF loss - general

Here is one more comparing between one and the other 965. Blue is source Green is OK deck Red is a bad one As you can see (if you look at picture from this post "green line" and a 2nd one from previous post "blue line", that is a same mech and heads mounted on 2 different decks), mechanic/heads...

Deck is RS-B965. Head azimuth/tilt/height are OK, adjusted with Willys WHS300 and ANT test tape. Here is a test result (source vs tape): PS Don't care about frequencies below 200Hz, that is about some resistance mismatch between a sound card and a deck. Blue is source, pink and green are tape...

    HF loss - general

Hi everybody, Have a deck that have a roll off at 8kHz. We all know that worn heads use to be suspect n.1 but heads on that deck doesn't look bad. What I'm wondering is, if anything else can make a HF loss, beside heads. Info about deck: - it is cleaned and heads are demagnetized and properly...

Pics of your Favorite Cassette Tapes

SF is, I think, the only TDK tape with dark blue shell instead of classic black. Wait until I start to record a tapes :blob5:
