Earlier I was saying using plastic has the benefit of not creating a second path to ground for the audio connections. A metal one does/can if not isolated some how.

I was wondering… plastic (well, CHEAP plastic) prevents multiple ground paths but can suck. Some designs are very sensitive to this and can make their displeasure known via hum.

I believe it is a condition of employment at Walmart. Other than greeters of course. They have “unique” requirements.
