I know the feeling. After 6mos of using it I'm really just beginning to scratch the surface on understanding the Sys1. Mines a standard 22A so no dual domain and I have most options but no burst module so no internal squarewave capability in mine.

Here is an excerpt from the Sys1 manual. I'm fairly positive it'll be the same for all AP's. "Selecting SQUARE on the WAVEFORM line will produce squarewaves from the generator output when the BUR-GEN module is installed. Thesquarewave is calibrated in peak equivalent sine-wave terms. Thus...

Thats interesting that you get 1.4V in with a 1V squarewave. If you figure that a 1V rms sine wave = 1.414 Vp it sounds like its interpreting it wrong. Maybe something is set wrong. Are you using the analog or digital domain?

Vintage Phase Linear 400 Power Amplifier – Refurbished (On Ebay Now)

I agree that Steve could offer a lot of experience and learning to everyone on the board. However coming in with an opening post spraying venom everywhere doesn't help to pave the way for that. His opening statement said he's open to criticism and willing to learn, but with an attitude such as...

Moer, I'll comment on your grumbling about my posts. "Yeah a 140v transistor wouldn't be my choice etc etc. Never heard of voltage grading?" Please point us all to a major manufacturers data sheet that says "Its completely acceptable to exceed our max voltage ratings as long as you grade our...

Yeah a 140V transistor wouldn't be my choice on a +/- 85V rail. My guess would be that he had a couple cases of them stashed somewhere.

No doubt he spent a lot of time & money refurbing these. Even factoring in his connections through ZED audio in minimizing the cost of reanodizing and new faceplates. When you factor in the initial cost of the amp its hard to see it being worth the effort. To me they would have to sell for well...

Mantz has been around for a loooong time, he's a well known car audio designer. I know he was offering refurbishment services for the PL amps several years back. I wonder what he's got going on with these, test mules maybe?

One other thing to consider is that both the AP Sys1 and Sys2 came with optional GPIB inputs. You would have to think that the GPIB commands are identical in most respects for those other AP systems. If you could find someone that had written GPIB scripts for either of those systems it might...

The main issue most people are having is the through hole via on the +pin of C8. The insert and plating on either side of the hole is fragile and the +rail voltage passes from the bottom of the board through to the top side on that C8 pin. These snap-in caps are very tight so the holes are...

We use a few of the old Agilent 82357A GPIB > USB adapters at work. I just bought a couple of more used ones off of the auction site about 6 mos ago to use in connecting an HP 34401A up to a computer to automate data collection for a researcher, but I am using software Agilent had made available...

You know you really have to think that AP had at least a few basic GPIB scripts that they had kicking around at the factory. Too bad they didn't make any of that available.

That was my thinking, if you could just get the data off the unit into a csv file it'd be quite simple to paste it into a prepped excel spreadsheet. I have a spreadsheet I was using to plot out my data off my old manual analyzers. It was a pain gathering and entering the data for a THD freq...

Yes, I was selling the basic performance kits for the Acurus pre's. I decided to stop offering them due to the higher than expected issues that most folks were having installing the kits. Mainly non-functional pre's or other issues. I'm still doing the more extensive upgrades here at home.

I know that AP had designed the early ATS to be run as an HP8903 emulator, so it would seem that you should be able to get the numeric data off of the GPIB port. I have to wonder if a program like P. Millets 8903 control program could be adapted to operate the ATS and P1 via GPIB.

If you need a phono stage then the 24k is hard to beat, but I like the later Aragon 18k, 28k & Aurum's circuit design better. The Aurum is typically a lot more expensive though. If you find an RL-11 without the remote you can always use your smartphone. I downloaded an app that had the Acurus...

I'm using a parallel port on the laptop to communicate with the APIB input on the AP S1. I think with an ATS1 or P1 you will have to work with the GPIB bus and I don't believe APWIN will work with that. Do you have a means of exporting the data off of the ATS, ie. a floppy?

The area's at 2kHz and 20kHz are where the freq range is switching, there's also a step at 200Hz but its not really visible. I see the same thing with my old analyzers, on my Amber 3501 when I switch from 10 X 100 to 1 X 1000 even though its the same frequency theres a jump in distortion. The...
