Recapped, we’re “Jason JJ Cruzin’” over here. Exactly the same with the new caps, just have to mount the new transformer in the bottom of the speaker cabinet and wire up permanently. Played a little bass through it, sounds like what you’d expect.

Messing with this this morning, cleaned the pots and tube sockets. Sounds better but has some hum which is most noticeable at mid volume, it’s quiet at low and full volume. Tagged the new caps in temporarily in parallel with the old ones and no change. Trying to figure a good way to use the...

    Charge coupled crossovers

Ahh I’ve figured it out why I’ve never seen this, mine all use zero point energy straight from the ether.

    Charge coupled crossovers

Interesting. Had to look that up. I would bet that may of us would need a substantial voltage cap and power supply to make good use of this though? https://www.enjoythemusic.com/diy/0911/charge_coupled_crossovers.htm

The amp is on, tubes hot, measurements were taken with no input signal though. The amp works, I plugged my Ricky into it, sounds normal now... didn’t crank it or take any other measurements. Should I be checking bias on the tubes or any current measurements? Seems guys check that shit working on...

Back working at this amp. Got the transformer hooked up and checking voltages. A 448vdc B 368vdc C 344vdc transformer secondary voltage is 300/0/300 and the dropping resistor values are in tolerance to the schematic. I do have new 450v filter caps which I haven’t installed yet but she has some...

    PL400 Series 2 problems...maybe

Gotta agree with you Gene. My uncle is running a bone stock 400 since he bought it new in the 70’s as his studio amp, he runs his drums and keyboards through it and it’s only ever failed when the jam session gets things too far into the red. Tim, my 700/1 has only the WO driver board and Don’s...

Phase Linear 700 series 2 faceplate needed

Lemme size em up when I get home from sailing. Might be able to make a run of them. Pretty sure they’re anodized post machining also which isn’t a big deal to get done...

    e-REX engine

Can’t watch video rn limited connection but it must have a scavenge blower or forced induction of some sorts. Opposed piston in old tech, this is kinda interesting variation. Seen something similar using a swash plate. I’ve worked on Fairbanks Morse opposed diesels, they were pretty retesting...

    700 Series II Build

I had to clean Linda and Tim of thermal grease. I tried a few different formulations of brake cleaner which seem to have different effects in the shop on certain materials and none would touch that evil stuff.

New PL 400 Series II build

Heat sinks on upside down? Can’t remember if that was the 400/1 or 700/1 where it was possible to mount the heat sinks upside down or backwards and nothing lined up... you shouldn’t have to pull them in with the screws, they go in all the way with the magnetic holder and gentle pressure when...

Anybody worked on or with UREI 6500 amplifiers

If I had ten amps kicking around I might attempt an odd build... buy a ton of of cheap 6” woofers, I mean like 20-30 per channel x 10 amps x 2 channels. See a car audio build where buddy did something similar. The surface area you are able to utilize on a speaker box is insane. Surface area is...

    Started my build, have issues

Search the site here for the pl-400 manual and service manual. Not sure I can phone post it. Also read Joe’s documents/instructions (they’re the eff’n PL bible...). Bias is measured across the B-E on the outputs. 350mV is about what you’re after. Too much bias will turn on the +\- rails at the...
