    B&K PRO 5 Preamp

The Eq is nice and pretty simple. You pick the frequency, then the bandwidth around that freq, narrow or wide, then adjust the amplitude. I leave it in the out position most of the time. I run the SAE2900 in my main system and the Carver 4000t in the other. Guess which sound cleaner? The SAE has...

    B&K PRO 5 Preamp

My preference would be a SAE 2900, clean sound, lot of features and nice parameteric eq., but I don't see any available atm. Acurus seems popular around here, you may like: https://longisland.craigslist.org/ele/d/acurus-l10-pre-amplifier/6416972013.html No idea what differs the L10 from the...

I always thought it was a bad idea to expect any site to keep what you want available indefinitely. I can always find space for what pics and other data I have. Then swap out HDs occasionally for backup and to increase capacity.

Do you think the Pentium IV won't be affected? It uses virtual memory too doesn't it? I may have to go back to the old Dx40 with win3.11 ..oh no.

    Power conditioners/surge protectors

Thanks. I found you can leave the APC set to current display and it will show what the system is drawing all the time, nice. The unit I use is only 15A. I'm not coming close to that, even with the TV. They do make a 20A. More expensive by a lot. Found this one on Ebay used for $50. I like the...

    Power conditioners/surge protectors

I'm also starting to use an APC G5BLK surge suppressor, rack mount unit in my new system. So far, so good. Like its delay start program features.

    Power conditioners/surge protectors

The APC is great if you want a UPS. It will provide all the surge suppression you will need. If you wanted just a good surge suppressor, TII Industries use to make some nice wall units. Their newer MOV based suppressors were good too, but for the best surge suppression, my favorite is still...

I don't know the models, but I do know that marshall sound, nice.

Phono Pre-Amp......to tube or not to tube?

Its all a matter of taste. I find the louder I listen, the more I prefer the clean preamp sound. However at moderate to low levels the tubes do sound sweet, especially on old recordings or records. On guitar its tube all the way.

AC phasing in hi fi system

It's most important in live gear. Most guitar amps have a polarity reverse switch. You don't want to be grabbing a mic in a rain storm and have the polarity of the mic and the guitar reversed...ouch. On home gear I always consider grounding the chassis together if hum is a problem and observe...
