Tapes DO kill the heads. If you don't play tapes, the heads won't wear out. Buy a new deck, turn it on, and never put a tape in it. You'll never have to fuck with those heads for as long as you live. Pretty simple.

Gotta have the White Oak chassis. More room and they are kick ass. Yeah, it's not often I use an original chassis. Matter of fact, I'm going to carry the old Pro 700 (a series II ) chassis and heat sinks next door and put them in Paul's metal recycle pile.

Remember, a 400 WOPL and a 700B/ II WOPL cost pretty much the same to build and resale for the 700B/ II sell for triple so choose wisely. The 400 may HAVE enough power but more bang for the buck can be realized with the bigger amp.
