I just procured a set of Usain Bolt signature HP. A buddy works at the company who develops them. Not really my style, but they were free! Sound quality is not too bad, little boosted on the bottom and too much on the top.

I need one 400 meter. Not sure which one I need because I am 38k feet in the air! There were very early ones, then later ones if I recall. Just thought I would throw out the request. When I get back home, I'll see which one I need.

Hi All - I know this is an old thread, but I thought I would chime in since I have a D500... as suspected, this amp IS a beast. The one I procured was not working and I paid 1k for it. But it was from a buddy I knew and he knew the history of the amp. It was a little rough, and apparently well...

I have two of these amps - C500. One bought from ebay worked and did not appear to have any issues. The other, bought from a "virtual" friend I met on ebay 10 years ago. This C500 was in such bad shape that Carver Corp. would not even fix it. They sent it back to my friend saying it was too far...

In this case, it is +125VDC. At that voltage the zener diodes and NPN VAS (40412VI) run pretty hot. I'll start another thread in the main section to talk about this amp in general.

This is actually a very good question. According to the D500 SM, bias should be set with the impedance switch set to Hi Z. After I repaired mine, I figured I would "go easy" on the circuitry and select Lo Z which keeps the rail voltage around +85VDC. In this mode, the D500 is like a "Godzilla...
