PL3000 preamp Recap Mouser parts list.

If you’re going through all that trouble, I think it’s worthwhile to consider decoupling capacitors on opamps. Typically .1 µF film types or ceramic. If the 3000 is like my 3300 there are a number of ceramic capacitors in the signal chain which would likely benefit with equivalent film type...

    Butt Whuppin by PL 3300

The other day the wife was watching TV and I wanted to rock out. So I pulled out the Bose headphones and plugged them in. The right channel was white noise on top of the music even with the volume at minimum. The main out to the amps was dead quiet. I pulled the preamp out and off to the...

    PL 700 version

What's the criteria for a failure? Those drivers usually only fail when outputs go. See the manual for options on drivers. The MJ423 would be an option if you can test the channel with a scope to verify there is no high frequency oscillation.

    My WOPL 700 Containment Thread

Ugh! The photos show the output binding posts were replaced with gold plated versions. That's OK, but the chassis had to be drilled to accommodate them. The studs on the new posts are larger than the standoffs (4-40) supplied for mounting the board to the OEM Switchcraft binding posts. An...

    PL 400 series 1

. A week ago, I got off a nine day cruise in the Caribbean. I made it a point to be off-line. I didn’t want to let the world know the house was empty. It can be a struggle to keep up with everything. I went straight from the cruise ship to my Houston office and started a class next day. I...

Would a 400 or 700 be a better match for my speakers?

Yea, right, and Lee never suffered from that.

Would a 400 or 700 be a better match for my speakers?

A 30 watt amplifier can damage speakers just as bad as a 700W. The under powered amplifier becomes distorted at high volumes and dumps high frequency, high power signals in the speakers, and can damage high frequency drivers such as expensive tweeters

100 watt resistors needed for a one time job - did not expect them to look like this.

A penalty must be inflicted as a result of stupidity. In this case the penalty was a minor burn on a couple fingers.

Attached are photos of a 7.2 ohm load bank using water heaters. Here is a Home Depot link. 120 volt-2000 watt heater Note that the elements must be submerged in a full bucket of water. At $10 each, It's reliable, as long as the bucket is full of water, and cheap. Without water, the plastic...
