Buy or trade for: ADS A/D/S Braun components

I bought my a/d/s C2/3 cassette deck from Ron @Northwinds more than 10 years ago. Unfortunately, it's not a deck I want to sell. It's unique and it's well-built. I think it weighs over 20 lbs.. Playing Miles' mix tape: Nando.

    what are you listening to?

Cannonball Adderly On DAT I listened to a DAT recording of Cannonball Adderley played back on my Sony TCD-D10. I then recorded one track to WAV file which is 11 minutes long. A short cell phone video taken during the recording through my Tascam DR-05: And the WAV file: DAT Recording...

The manufacturer can cut the pancakes to whatever length - so length alone doesn't prove the origin of the tape stock. Nando.

Discussion about vintage cassette tape degradation

So - the story behind the TDK CD Power is that the tape stock may have come from offcuts from TDK SA-X pancakes, as it calibrates closely to it. Watch the video until the end. There may be an issue with the longer lengths (110), not present in the shorter lengths. Nando.

Discussion about vintage cassette tape degradation

I'm not sure about the tape thickness between the Maxell and TDK at C-100 tape length. Not a length I record to that often, but I've played a number of C-100 tapes - including used tapes - without issue. Nando.

Realistic LAB-2100 Playing Foghat Testing my LAB-2100 linear-tracking turntable, as I bought it at the thrift store a few weeks back for $20. I received a new stylus and tonearm carriage drive belt for it, yesterday. The original drive belt was still working. And a cell phone video: Nando.

@Bob Boyer: It was awhile back and I remember we made a deal on a lot of Maxell XLII-S 100, I sent you. I think it was in exchange for one of your mix tapes and maybe the shipping cost. Nando.

Discussion about vintage cassette tape degradation

Here is a WAV music file captured from a test recording onto an NOS 1979-vintage TDK SA 90 using my Marantz SD-9000. The tape was recorded at 2X-speed - a great feature on the SD-9000 and my first use of 2X-speed recording. No NR was used and the deck has no tape calibration with bias fine tune...

Discussion about vintage cassette tape degradation

There are some newer cassettes - Type II - which are hidden gems. Like the 1995-1997 Fuji Z (U.S. version): Another surprise - 1997-2001 TDK CD Power (U.S. version): Truly affordable tapes with age on its side, but without the notoriety of the older cassettes. Nando.

    NAD 6300

My first serious recording deck for recording mix tapes was my Pioneer CT-F1250. And I have a hankering to use it again for recording. Back when I had the CT-F1250 as my main recording deck, then moved onto the Esoteric V-9000 (pictured above the CT-F1250) for a number of years: My third...

    NAD 6300

Your A&D GX-Z9100 is a more-than-capable deck. And once you've become accustomed to using it, it's harder to find favour with a new acquisition. I thought the same of my Esoteric V-9000, until I began using my Pioneer CT-A9X for recording duties. You just become acquainted to a deck and its...

The New Old Cartridge is Back!

He accepted my offer and the deal is done with the Pickering XSV/5000. I've dealt with the same seller in the past when I bought a Teac C-I MK II cassette deck from him, last year. Seller's photo: Nando.

I have a Pickering XSV-4000 cartridge on my Pioneer PL-630 and I have just made an offer on a Pickering XSV-5000 with D5000 stylus being sold by a Canadian seller. Cross my fingers. Nando.

Good thing you stuck with the cartridge, Bob. Sometimes, it's best to work with what you have and know, than take a chance on a replacement. Nando.
