    Moving Coil cartridges for trade

The Soundsmith SMMC2 is a moving magnet. It replaces B&O MMC2 on the last generation of B&O turntables.

    Beomaster 2400 stupid question

The boards pivot up at right angles and fit into slots, giving easy access to both sides. I think they are easy to work on, but you have to get used to the service manuals.

    Beomaster 2400 stupid question

I've repaired a few of these and generally the darlington outputs are the only transistors that fail. Since you have it open, it is time to replace the red electrolytics.

    Big thank you to NakDoc!

I think the diamond will last for 500 plays, at which point you break his record and go shopping for another...My favorite used record store has bins of $1 records. 20 for $10

    Under - biasing on purpose

The Loki is nothing more than the parametric EQ found in Yamaha C-85 preamps, and many others. I find variable bandwidth EQ quite useful. I experimented once, which led to my practice of reducing the bias so the frequency I select will playback +0.5dB. I use 12kHz for type I, 15kHz for type...

What might be the consequence(s) if the collector/case of TO3 output transistor was shorted to ground?

Typical amp failure in the small NADs is outputs and drivers, and the bias transistor, plus a resistor or two. Q409 is shorted. My guess is one of the drivers is open causing the distortion.

Dahlquist DQ-10 series 4Ω-15W resistors smoking...

Those resistors are in parallel with each other, and the pair is in series with the mids and tweeters. What is does is attenuate the mid/tweeters level by 50%, so if they are getting that hot, you are playing loudly enough to have 25 watts RMS going up in heat and smoke. I recommend turning it...

    Polk audio tweeter “spitty “

The tweeter may be swapped easily. Tweeter terminals are plug in connectors. Crossover caps cannot cause "spitting" , only treble attenuation (horns are the exception). Ferrofluid gets thick with time causing treble attenuation, but not spitting, however it would be good to know if the spitting...

    HF loss - general

What model? The first step is to play a pre-recorded music cassette and switch your monitor between stereo and mono. If there is little difference, then you have some sort of record problem. If you hear a big difference, then the head azimuth needs to be set using a test tape. Is this a 3 head...

    Check my ciphering...

Since the schematic shows a regulated power supply, I'd forget the resistors, and change C10 from 470 @16v to 470 @25v, change C14 to 220uf @ 25v, add a 10 ohm resistor in series with R10, and add a 16v 1 watt zener in parallel with C14. The change will give you a real regulated supply rather...

Have you bought your back-up supply of tubes, yet?

The 6GH8A tubes I have new are GE and Sylvania. I have used RCAs among many others. If the RCA structure is what you want I can look at the other brands and see if I find a match

Need help about understanding power transformer of a cassette deck, please.

To open a thermal fuse in a transformer, current must flow for a considerable amount of time - 10 minutes at least. The problem is all this excess power had to have broken down other parts in the deck. If he is lucky, the broken parts will be the main filter capacitors before the regulators. I...

    The Rarest Electrostatic Speaker?

Bob and I fiddled around with stereos with a group of audiophiles around 1975-77. One project we worked on was a hand made true class A power amp that put out 5 watts of amazing sound for about a week (then you needed new output transistors. and you were good for another week) Bob later...
