    HELP! Rescuing Dad's old PL400 S2 (pics)

Will it persist with the 900 ohm load if you get it to latch up with 16 ohms initially? Put the 900 ohm load on the output solidly. Attach your 16 ohm load and then detach it after it latches up on power up. See if it then persists.

    HELP! Rescuing Dad's old PL400 S2 (pics)

If it latches up with those in parallel, you should be safe to debug without blowing things up.

    HELP! Rescuing Dad's old PL400 S2 (pics)

Have you tried it with the 1.8K ballast resistors you took out? 2 of them in parallel for a 900 ohm load?

    HELP! Rescuing Dad's old PL400 S2 (pics)

Did you attempt a bring up with just the bottom row installed with and without your 8 ohm load? Have you tried it with a value larger than 8 ohms so you can successfully diagnose why it is latching up, which appears is happening?

Remember I ran a survey with questions about this some time back Lee. Well finally got around to it after all the Model ONE docs were put into decent shape. Yes it is PL400 based. New Faceplate, illuminated AC power switch in conjunction with Mr. Imlay's triac switch and level control pots...

    PL700 Rebuild

Lee that is why I asked you to do this test. What happens if you install the bottom most row as you have already done, the top row as you have done, then instead of the row right above the drivers, move that row one more up and try again. So bottom row filled, skip the second row, fill the...

    PL700 Rebuild

I recommend that you install only the bottom row devices and check things out. It will help to isolate where your issues may lie. The amp will work perfectly as an amp with only the bottom row installed. It won't drive much but it will work. I call this the safe mode...
