    Adjusting signal with resistor

Thanks, I have learned myself something new. Have checked, have only 10V 100uF. Will order 16V. So, it means that all caps can be replaced with 2 step higher voltage, of course if size allows. Some of caps I have replaced in that deck are 1 step higher, say 35V instead of 25V, but not all and I...

    Adjusting signal with resistor

It is RS-B965. All caps are replaced with Nichicon UPW/UES and Panasonic FM/FR (except those on FL display pcb). PB level is OK, output can be, as I wrote earlier, adjusted by replacing R41 and R42 (10K) with 11 or 12K. It is tested and it works. So, last point is peak meter and there are only 2...

    Adjusting signal with resistor

Thanks for explanations, really. There are 3 points that can be adjusted: 1. Dolby (pb) level 2. Deck output level (which in my case is done by replacing IARC R41 and R42. 3. Peak meters Now, all of those 3 are in chain, which means, touch first one and 2nd and 3rd are out of specs, touch 2nd...

    Adjusting signal with resistor

If that does matters, I'm trying to lower a signal, peak meters are showing 2db more than they should. That means that I need a lower resistance. How I was thinking is just to let more of signal go to the ground thru that R559. That was just a thinking. Anyway, doing what you have suggested...

    HF loss - general

Before I say something, let me remind that I'm a learner/amateur so lot of things you are talking about are Sci-Fi to me, but I'm trying to understand. Now, as long as I know, ground for good working deck is condition of head and mechanics (including tape path and pinch rollers). If those are...

    Adjusting signal with resistor

To make long story short, if I want to adjust a signal level, is it properly to change value of R559 (and R560 for a second channel) ?

To remove pads from a cassette would be wrong approach to a problem I think. Even if that gives better results, it would be like a deck with wrong pb level. It can sound great but tapes recorded on it would not be compatible with other decks. What I don't get is how someone can use a deck...

    HF loss - general

Thanks for so detailed explanation and pictures of course. Those heads are not worn but destroyed. Mine are far away from those but I don't have a microscope to check a gaps but even if there is something, it can be lapped I believe. Regarding equipment, it would be nice to have Fluke or Leader...

    RCA plugs / contacts

Have checked yesterday, probably good stuff but not cheap. I mean, we're trying to find a balance. Something that will do a good job, will last over the time and is not Sci-Fi. Such a plugs obviously can't be find for a 1$. At the other side Amphenol seems to be one of those that will do a good...

    RCA plugs / contacts

And I was wondering why some plugs are straight while others are angled. Never came to my mind about death grip. Thanx for telling that.

Was it something about my deck? :) LOL

    RCA plugs / contacts

Cable I have is 6mm which seems perfect for Amphenol, so I'll go for it. 2€/pcs is anyway much cheaper than actual prices on eBay. Want to make cables only once. As 62vauxhall wrote, there can be a problem with Chinese plugs over the time, and as George S. wrote, with Chinese you can never know...

    HF loss - general

Thats why it is unusable to me :) 23kHz sounds great but I'm not sure that I can hear difference between 20 and 23. To be honest, I have never tested. Just want my tapes to sound as close as possible to source, while listening on regular speakers. Have no intention to take a headphones and...

I pm-ed Alex today, asking about relapping. We'll see if he have a time for such things. And yes, I want that one as a spare part. And yes, it would be great to try amorphus one on 965 :)

Nothing but agree. Besides, I like when people are explaining detailed. Some of us sometimes don't understand something that is obvious for a professionals.

No need for such reaction, he is pionting that permaloy heads don't need lot of use to get wear. We are all here to talk, share opinions and knowledge and to learn. No reasaon to criticize each other ;) We don't want people to leave Phoenix, but to say whatever they think and want.

    RCA plugs / contacts

Thats exactly what I have seen, Amphenol for about 2$/piece while Chinese are about 1$. That means 20pcs for 20$ vs 40$. Is there a reason to go for more expensive? My opinion is that a cable is what matters, plug is just a plug.

    RCA plugs / contacts

Have about 5 meters of a good cable and thinking to replace standard cables I'm using to hook up all equipment (CD, MD, deck and so on). What I need is RCA plugs and there ARE lot of them on market. Wondering if there is really some difference between them. The one can get 20-pack from Amazon...

Can be both first and second. Fact is that I can't feel any "lines" under the nail, don't know, maybe there is some wear I can't see. Dont have microscope to see. Have checked by zooming a photo, couldn't see nothing special. Maybe it was so from a first "factory" day but I dont believe it would...

Alex just knows how equipment is breathing. If aliens would crash on the earth he would be able to fix their spaceship and to upgrade it with a cassette stereo :) So much about Alex. What Nikola Tesla was for electricity, Alex is for audio equipment. It is sad that he dont have some kind of...
