I think tubes are a poor choice for a phono pre in general. They have their own self-noise and the gain is high... I'd say re-design with one less gain stage (tube) but I think that will invert polarity, so you'd have to deal with that, but the net gain (should) be lower noise and less gain...

New Sensor is the US distributor of Sovtec (I used to be a tube seller back in the guitar making days) so those are Sovtec-made tubes. They may have changed the plates or something, but maybe not... I'd want to do a side-by-side personally.
