Anybody Familiar with Janszen Speakers

It may be wiorth the effort if I can find out what model they are. Their E-Stat speakers are going for good money. The guy didn't give me a rear pic but it looks like a passive woofer. I asked for a rear pic...
 
I'd be curious to know as well. He designed the famous electrostatic KLH 9s, which do bring serious money when you find a pair. His 'stats were supposed to be great and as you say, fetch good money these days. That said, I think he sold out and whoever bought the name shifted to dynamic drivers which may or may not have been as good. Still - that pair doesn't look like any in the ads I remember as a kid; could have been a higher end model. From the overall condition, definitely worth the time, I'd venture to say.

Not the guy with the Janszen's, he is going to get me pics of the back (nothing there) but the speaker wires go under the speaker and attaches to it there. If I can't get a positive ID, I'm bailing. I don't like White Van Speakers. Even at 50 bucks
 
I talked to David Janszen and it Looks like they were a prototype when licensee (Electronics Industries) here in Minnesota designed them to gauge the market since all the speakers with the Janszen name on them were electrostatic or hybrid electrostatic and these guys decided to try a regular type speaker. This one has hand written model number and serial numbers. ZDT-1 with a serial number of 1225. He said they looked well designed and legit so maybe a restore/veneer job might be in order. David Janszen is the son of Arthur who started the company after he left Harvard as a professor in the 50's and he makes new E-stat speakers now.

Thoughts???

Interesting that his son carried on the work of his father. Somewhat rare in vintage audio...
 
Well, when guys with more money than brains can spend $20 grand on a set of speakers, that part is easy plus he had worked with his dad till his passing in 91 so I'm sure he has a pile of designs for ES speakers from the last 70 years his dad drew up.

Start your own vintage audio museum with gear that actually works. Seriously, the opportunity to own a prototype with that pedigree is very cool.
