Mk II is a much better sounding deck than Mk III, especially after the modifications. Mk III is almost useless to modify even as the main limitation to the sound quality comes from Dolby chips used. Unless you remove these , there is no hope for it. Cheers Alex

Bipolar (Non-Polar) electrolytic caps can be happily used in place of polar caps as long as the maximum voltage is not exceeded. If the DC voltage on the capacitor is low and polarity is not known or variable (as could be the case in many opamp based circuits in audio equipment), than Bipolar...

I would advise you to get a mains supply as well, just to keep the unit powered all the time. Black Gate caps need at least 300 hours run-in to sound good and keep improving further with time, a short interruption in not a problem but otherwise it is good to keep it on. The current consumption...
