Yes, the Memorex Challenge should prove to be interesting. Both Miles and I are hoping to record music onto our tapes that would challenge the recording capability of these ugly-sister cassettes. I have a few ideas of which songs to use that could test the mettle of our chosen blanks.

That is an interesting version of it i never saw Nando, i mostly tried the coloured stuff which worked good, i see yours having a different design maybe a model produced for American or Canadian market, you may be surprised in a very pleasant way by that one.. Keep us posted how it goes with it

Sep, I have maybe two or three sealed Memorex blanks. I only began collecting them just prior to Miles and I discussing our idea months ago. There will be a separate thread featuring the "Challenge," probably, within the Travelling Tapes sub-forum.

At least you have a few sealed as i din't have any of it at all, just the one coming from Miles which sounds very good.. My Memorex experience back in the days was quite pleasant as i used them a lot for making mixtapes for friends,, Looking back to very early 90's when using a bunch of coloured DBS's with my EX Philips F6121..

And those were the days.. Yeah, my appetite for those humble ferrics seems to grow again and again..

I really splurged on that one, Miles. There used to be an old radio ad for a department store in Canada where the jingle went: "Dollar Fourty-Nine Day, Tuesday!"

I did that too Nando and i still have my cassettes with my little nephiews then saying poetries for kids ,, and i was a main user of a RTR back then using cassettes just for fun and also for friends,, just very recently i discovered infact the HI-FI side of the cassettes..

my 1988 PIO CT-S800 is the best deck i've ever had to date, and will probably continue to be so.
it is functionally, and, largely, physically identical to PIO's ELITE CT-91 of around the same production era;

What I try to say is: €7,50 for a MINT GX-52 is still a bargain, even with having it's new price from 1989 in mind.....

The Pioneer CT-S800 sure is a nice one. Thanks for providing the pictures. I have to admit, there is no shortage of good cassette decks still available, if that's your fancy. Miles and I have had some uncanny success in scooping a few deals - although I think he has done better than me in that respect. Hey... someone has to save them from the crusher.

That Pioneer reminds me of the TEAC V-5000 I had, and although that one was acclaimed as being a "High-End" deck, the stupid Akai is sounding better....

I trust your ears, Miles. Too many people have been lulled by factory performance specs only to find in the real world those specs don't translate to a superlative recording or playback performance. Save your hard-earned money and prove the sceptics wrong. That's my philosophy.
