Which model Elite was it, Ben? You would think I would have one by now, but it just hasn't happened.

Nando.
Was a CT-43 Nando. It was also back around the fall time I had come across it. When I came across the auction it was at around 75 dollars. I had set my limit at 175. I think it sold for about 183.

Ya win some ya lose some.

I really think this one would fit to your other Elite components:

Yes, you know me well, Miles. That would be the one. My best friend has the Pioneer model which is the equivalent to the CT-93. I am contemplating a deal with him, as he doesn't use it much at all.

You only missed it by a few dollars, Ben. Who knows, you might get an Elite deck before me.

Nando.

Haha, im doubtful of that Nando. As I mentioned it was just something I came across on the bay and thought if I could get it at a reasonable price I would go for it. That being said, there are very little modern Pioneer decks in my area. Actually, I have never seen one. I had been in touch with a local guy who repairs/sells vintage equipment, unfortunately all he had was a 1250.

I have seen a couple ES decks for sale, but they were a little further than I would have liked to travel. I suspect the one I had my eye on is priced too high as its been for sale on Kijiji for more than 2 years.

And as a matter of fact, Rob had been in touch with this seller the X-mas before last. He was going to stop in to buy it on his way home from here. The day before he left we stumbled on his Teac at the record shop and he purchased that instead, for a much better price as well.

$225,- is WAY too much for a deck like this:

Those were not the best series by Sony and not worthy to wear the ES badge...
Right! And if I may add to that, being an autoreverse deck = azimuth issues.

I suppose if someone has "got to have it" though, then they will pay.
Market forces ring true!

Quite a value proposition at 183 man!
Someone is smiling, ear-to-ear on that deal.
Hell, people have been known to pay more than that just for the side panels. :-o

Indeed. I had contemplating going to 200 but the decided against it. The unit was listed wrong... I think it had CT-44 or something. It wasnt the same model as the deck, described in the listing anyways. Also it was the gray/silver version. Which is likely the reason I didnt go higher on it. I would have preferred black.

I agree about that Sony deck too. Way too much money, which is why its been on the site for more than 2 years. That being said, other than a couple really high priced Naks its one of the better decks I have seen listed within a 100km drive. So that right there implies whats around here.

It seems like Akai decks get no love around here. I'll have to post some images of my Akai GX-912 three header deck some time. It is a nice looking and good sounding deck. :-D

Miles: What was the extent of the work you did on the Akai? Another smoking deal and it cleaned up nice. Have you put it through your playback and recording trials?

"She"...

Well, there were some nasty scratches on the top cover, but it was an easy job to respray it. It is in MINT! condition right now (in technical and physical way), so from now on I will call her a "She"..
She's integrated permanently into one of my systems this afternoon and is playing some good tapes & tunes since then.

I took a simple snapshot of it:

It's such a lovely piece of equipment and indeed a smokin' deal!

Your Akai GX-52 cassette deck doesn't even look out of place amongst all the Sonys, Miles. I am just wondering what other cassette deck discoveries you might come upon. What is the quintessential cassette deck you want most? I am assuming it might be one with Dolby S capability.

Daren,

It's been a while you created something like this, but it's highly appreciated!

Thanks!

For now I'm very satisfied with what I have. All the decks having a very low mileage and are in state of new, and all the Sony's are equipped with dolby S.
So, no need for something new at the moment.

(... unless another smokin' deal comes my way..... ;-))

Nice work, Daren!

Miles: Believe me, you are on a streak of good fortune with cassette decks. Once I complete Larry's mix tape, I will be ready for the Memorex Challenge. I'm a little nervous about what this sealed Memorex can do.

There's no need for being nervous Nando, if you don't trust it I will send you a sealed blank of my Memorex ferrics to keep the challenge equal... No problem.

But honestly: I don't think that Memorex tape you are nervous about will bring any problems in this challenge. I have several mixtapes of you recorded on different kind of tapes and they are ALL! sounding very well!

See the fun of it!

Memorex ferric tapes will be used, Daren.
Thanks Nando.

I'll have to be patient and see which particular model you eventually decide on! I think that most cassette fans are unduly critical of Memorex tapes.

I quite like them. :)
