I think I have previously replied to similar threads like this here. I am very reluctant to share
my methods as usually some know it all smart arse that would not know their arse from their
elbow, buts in with the usual digital is digital, and copies made on my little sisters Fisher Price
CD burner are the same as everybody else's copies.
My recordings from LP, Tape to CD are nothing short of stunning when compared to an original CD of
the same material. The recording may have some increased vinyl surface noise compared to the
original CD but every other sonic feature makes the original CD sound broken.
Start to finish from recording the LP to burning a finished copy takes some considerable time and
multiple steps. Some significant hardware and software is also required and some experience in
using the software with a very minimalist approach so as to not damage the files.
I can elaborate on how I go about my methods developed over the last 15 or so years but there
is no way I will disclose this stuff in a post open to ridicule on this forum.
I have recently had a health scare and my tolerance for Fu**witts is at an all time low
If there is interest in my methods, I am willing to share. PM me for details

Ok I have one more question. If you download to MP3 files. Won't there be some loss because of the initial compression? How can you put back what was loss?
Why would you bother with MP3 files. I guess this is like asking some one who drives a classic mustang or similar "what converters do I need to use to get my Honda Civic to go as well as your Mustang" .A wave file turned into an MP3 file is a file F**ked forever.

When importing from a source to the computer, they come in as .wav. You then have to convert them to a format like mp3 or flac, or the others Doug mentioned. .wav takes up a lot of space though.
Just think of wav as a booty girl and you won't mind. :bootyshake:

I run a TT into my Nakamichi preamp, gives me options to use any source in then, the Nakamichi 610 preamp gives me a lot of options, but I would think any preamp would be good. I then run it into a Philips Aurilium Sound Processor USB 2.0, then use Audacity as the software.

For all the time I've spent here I don't know why anyone would ridicule. We can get that everywhere else but this community hasn't been that way. I for one have much to learn about everything.

We were only trying to help Larry get some files into his comp.

With that being said, i'd still be interested to hear your method Graham. Not sure why you would think anyone would ridicule you.

FWIW, I have always plugged my Pioneer PL-550 direct into my soundcard and made some very nice cd's. I leave them as .wav files so they are A/D lossless. I have converted to mp3 and they sound ok but not like a .wav. I have a decent Ion USB TT but have only used it once since I got it for Christmas about 5 years ago. That was to copy a rare test pressing that I later sold on ePay. Not a fan of the stylus' that come on them but they work, Never tried converting to FLAC

Nice card man. I bet that works great. When you plug your guitar in do you use a head section from an amp and bypass the speaker or do you go direct and use programs for effects and such?

You can go direct in or use in conjunction with a rack preamp like an ADA Mp1 or Eleven Rack. You can also use the Line Out on a head

I used to have a lot of Soundclick files but they are long gone. Right now I can't even use the card, drivers are not on the computer and it won't let me download them. Deb reinstalled Windows again but I still can't watch youtube vids and STILL no sound!!!

Yeah im not a fan of laptop rigs either. Im not too familiar with windows 8. I would think though that it should be installing and updating most recent drivers for you. Again though not a windows 8 fan. I bought my mom a laptop last year and removed 8 and put 7 on.

It's not though and we can't figure out why. I tried to find my Soundclcik files but it says I can't see them due to some SSL issue? I checked on my laptop and since I am not a paid subsriber, if they are not accessed, they disappear. I last uploaded a few 2 or 3 years ago

I'll have Deb look into it Ben, thanks. I'd love to go with Firefox but she's deadset against anything "different". Not sure if another browser would help since I can't even download from Microsoft LOL, the computer will not allow it. My firewall is only set to medium...
