Hey guys,
I opened up my box from Joe at White Oak this morning and heated up my soldering station. Here's a thread to document the build...hope you enjoy the journey as much as I am.

1) Bench full of goodies!

Resistors installed, beginning to stuff the caps onboard. Joe does such a great job with these kits. He even pre-forms the component leads so I didn't have to bend 'em into shape!

Board's complete, here's some more pictures of the build...
Joe does such a great job putting these kits together. He even pre-forms the component leads so they're ready to stuff into the board!
Everything is bagged up in the logical order to make the build sequential and orderly. I appreciate that kind of attention to detail.
Great work, Joe!
Tomorrow I'll wire it into the amplifier and see how she sounds...I bet it's going to be great.

Thanks, we aim to please. It is less frustrating for you when you do not have to stop and ask a ton of questions.
One hint that I do when installing the TO-5 heatsinks, I install the slit pointing up on Q5 locations opposite of what you have. It is a nit but makes it easier to remove if you have to. You have the Q10 and Q7 pointing down which is good.

What you want is a straight shot with a thin blade screwdriver into the slot if you ever have to take these off for any reason.

Joe, I've had some grip so tight it was easier to remove the tranny from the board, less collateral damage on a slip...

If you put a small screwdriver in the lower slit portion and give it a twist they come off easily. The lower section of the hat is separated by a horizontal cut which makes the lower portion that goes over the can quite flexible.

Nice bench Dave! I recognize most of your test equipment but I spy a Pioneer integrated amp on the upper shelf. Is it an SA-9500 or...?

Cool stuff. I still have a Simpson 260 at work - those guys were the workhorses 30+ years ago and still serve a purpose today.

Thanks, Nav! There is definitely a place for a good Simpson 260 when you need to meter a trending voltage or when you need to load the circuit under test for whatever reason...same thing with an old VTVM. It's way easier to watch a meter change as opposed to a digital display. I went through a stage where I collected quite a few VTVM's and those old Heathkits just can't be beat. Old EICO's are nice too. I have a couple of HP 410B's that are cool, but I prefer the Heathkit. Love old test gear. It just keeps cranking along year after year.
What you see isn't a Pioneer...It's a Phase Linear 4000 preamp. It sure does look like a Pioneer from the bottom half, huh? I got two of 'em when I bought my first 700B as a part of the deal. I recapped the power supply in both of them, DeOxited the crap out of the switches and pots, and put the beater of the two into service as a bench preamp. The other one is in the pile of stuff destined for sale 'someday'.

Today I'm going to install the board into the first of two 700B's and rewire the grounds to Joe's star ground scheme.
Note to self: install and test the board before making any other changes to the amp! It's way better to do things one step at a time and verify proper operation before making other changes to anything...

Joe, he might have been following the picture on your website, which shows the Thermalloy heatsinks on your board with all of the slits pointing down.

I learn from my experience Mark...I used to do that for consistency but found access a problem if you ever have to get at Q5. Now I have found a new consistency.
