Sorry. I worked a very late day. Just got to this. It seems the amp needs to be received by Saturday. Hmmm..... Well according to the info I have; this guy lives 15 minutes from my house. I could always pick it up myself to save the time constraints on this deal; then we here can talk how you want to handle the shipping. Be it by Lee's method sending me a case; or my own materials like usual via OOPS. Errrr.... I mean UPS. P.M. Me details. I have to work today but can try to pick it up in the morning?

Dave, it's not a problem. The guy met me on my way to work so it was a breeze. We talked about the local vintage audio repair shop here and some of the guys in the community. Talked Carver stuff and what a fan of the 700B I am.

I have it here now at my house. Took a few quick pictures to prove it. I just got home and it's late so I haven't tested it with a load yet, but I put it on the floor next to my stereo rack so I had a protected plug in and quickly powered it on to see NO puff of smoke? It was recently serviced by the local vintage audio shop and the sticker is on the back. So I figured it would be good since I know the guy personally. I pilfered through my shop today at work to find a very thick box with a crap ton of padding and foam. It should arrive in a Rockwell Automation box, so be on the lookout for it next week. I will PM you with the details for fed-ex.

I was happy to help. This community has done so much for me in the past in terms of overall help and knowledge. I can only return the favor in a small way. Happy holidays to the whole lot of ya! :santa:

This is an original Pioneer Spec rack P-Plus, but Middle Atlantic makes some exactly like it, I wouldn't be surprised if MA didn't make the Spec racks..

Where did you get it? I'm looking for a new equipment rack for my studio.

It really depends on what you are looking for Dave. I had a PL rack similar to Lee's there. (see my photo albums). More industrial rack type like you'd see in studio's. If you are looking to do a "shelf" thing; like I now have; I purchased this 5-tier mahogany/glass pane rack at best buy's magnolia site. It supports the weight of the 700's and has the perfect look I desired. But I placed my amps in the walnut cases and on the shelf to give it a more "homey feel". Seems to suit the lady better. If you love the rack handles; then by all means put it in a rack. Since you have a studio; I'd go for Lee's version there. :)

Very nice!

If you are talking Alpha in St Louis then I'd recommend not taking anything to them in need of service unless something has changed over the past several years. Myself and other serious audio enthusiast from St Louis have had negative experiences there in the past.

I will say their shop is cool as it used to be Ken Hensley of Uriah Heaps old recording studio.

You are correct good sir. Alpha Tech. The turn around time sucks, and the guy there Bob Zaw is pretty brash. A difficult person at most times. I needed my PL 700B fixed there back in 1999. Then again in 2012. He knows my father. For over 20 years at least. He was unwilling to help me or be too kind for that matter, until I uttered my last name. Then it was all about "who knows who". So I think general customer service there seems to take a back seat. Once he knew it was me; he brought in a retired guy who used to work there in the 70's, to work on my amp. I don't know if that meant he didn't trust his (what looked like college kids) in the back, or that it was a 700B with me. But he fixed it fine. And on Dave's here; they have a brand new power cord and I was told they put in new caps. Which doesn't matter since he is W.O.A. the whole shebang anyway.

I just hauled it upstairs to test it with a load on my mini system and make sure it worked. It looks great and I cranked it up. To Phil Collins "easy lover" and man the needles flew. I went up and up until I was sure my speakers couldn't take it. I started flinching at the volume because there was no distortion and yet I still had room to go up on the volume knob! I just didn't want to risk anything. Point is................ damn fine amp. I told my lady..........."hey; I think I may keep her". And she groaned. I was kidding but I am very happy for YOU Dave. Can't wait to hear about your project on it! Give me some time to box her up and it'll be on it's way. :)

Small town, eh. Good that you had an "in". After my first "repair" experience their I started either taking or shipping my stuff to EchoWars from AK. It was well worth the drive or the shipping cost.;)

Ya made my day, Phase...thanks so much for doing this. I bet that this kind of pay-it-forward thinking will pay off for you wherever you go or do in life! It looks like it's in very nice condition. I couldn't ask for more.
Thanks to all the members here who participated...when I started this thread, I was serious about finding a 700B but it's amazing how fast it all came together. I'm proud to be a part of Phoenix, and the kind of actions that Phase Linear Phanatic demonstrated here is the sort of stuff that really restores my old and somewhat jaded view of humanity to what it should be. It's really cool to be involved with a group of folks who look out for each other and genuinely care.
I'll get off the soap box now and just say THANKS, and MERRY CHRISTMAS to all of you !!! :happy7:

The 700B has arrived in GREAT shape.

First, a big shout out to Phase Linear Phanatic (Dave) for going out of his way to meet the seller in St. Louis for me, do the transaction, source the packing materials, and ship it to me.
Second, a big THANKS to Gepetto for turning me onto the CL ad in the first place.
Third, a nod of appreciation to the whole 350-odd members here at Phoenix, and our fearless leader Lee. None of would have happened without this place.
I received the amplifier today in perfect condition, and checked out the offset, looked for output transistor anomalies, etc...and hooked her up to drive the "Low Bass Modules" of the Dahlquist system...and it sounds so effortless compared to the PL400 that was driving the subs...
Now I have a pair of 700B's to drive the Dahlquists, and I'm awaiting the White Oak parts order my son got me for Christmas.
The next week is going to be GREAT, when it's all over there will be a new dawn of High Fidelity in the house of Dave.
It's my intent to do photos and progress reports as I build the boards and install them...stay tuned!

Dave, I'm just the current keeper of the flame is all. This forum was started by the Larrt and Jer. The small number of folks who were here to begin with and the founders created the atmosphere you experience today. My pledge was to keep it as close to that original feeling as possible.

Dynamic headroom is a wonderful thing isn't it??

There are two PL700s on the Seattle Craigslist. The price is a little high, but you might be able to make a 2'fer deal. I have not contacted him.

I think I have enough 700B's for now...

I guess I should repeat that I found the amp and that Phase Linear Phanatic generously picked it up in St. Louis and shipped it to me here in Michigan. I now am the proud owner of two WOPL 700B...er, WOPL-1000's, given that the power supply rails are over +/- 108 and 110 vdc...
