I haven't got a clue why I made index cards for all of my tapes, as I never lent them out... except for one time, and that's an interesting story involving a pair of exotic dancers.

Nando.
You have my attention! You're teasing us - I know.

Broken beyond repair but highly affable
Sending one now, Nando. But if you push him out the door while it's doing at least 70, come on back... you will be given a hero's welcome.
Don't use Nando's Buick if the kid has any spikey stuff on.

I've got more than 3500 cd's (original ones, no burned copies) in total in the archive I guess...
That is a lot of discs Miles. Way more than me.

While that "could" be a solution, I dont think that method is for me. I no longer have a rig tied into my system, so playback would be through my little Altec computer speakers. Even when I did have a comp wired through the stereo, I rarely played music from the computer. Id rather use my tape decks, reel, md, cd, or vinyl. :laughing9:
I will eventually rip all my CDs to a HDD and just stream my music. Not yet though.

Roughly how many discs do you have Daren? If I had to guess I'd think you were sitting on a pile, of course that may not be the case either.

I dont think ill ever be part of that club. I dont have anything against tunes on my rig. I just dont think ill ever take the time to do that. Imagine trying to do that with Miles collection. :laughing9:

Hi Ben,

Every four or five years I go through my discs and kick out those that are not worthy. I'm in the middle of the process now and when finished, I will have only a few hundred.

I suspect I have probably bought a couple of thousand over the years but I am always very strict with what I keep. It has always been like this.

I do have a very wide appreciation of music but I'll only keep/add to the collection if a recording rewards repeated plays. Also, the advent of streaming services like Spotify have reassured me that albums that I have previously thrown out can still be accessed easily.

I predict that guys like yourself will warm to the idea. The prospect of making needle drops of your favourite vinyl (& then keeping that same record in great condition by not playing it again) and the realisation that excellent SQ can be achieved via a PC based setup will surely appeal over time.

I'm not moving over to HDD audio just yet, but that will be the next destination down the road.

I do have a harddisc with an archive of WAV and FLAC files, but this is only music that hasn't been released on a cd and mostly in use for radio purpuses.

Really?

"In future, if artists have to rely almost exclusively on the income from these services, they'll be out of work within a year."

I say adapt or die.

And is future creativity really at risk?

I don't think so.

(Long) article on music streaming services here.

Thanks for that link Ben.

If playing music is your passion then you will do it because you love it and not for financial reward.

To record and promote your own stuff these days is so easy. It has never been a better time to be a musician.

In recent years, the real money has been made by touring and not through album sales. I don't understand all the whining to be honest. Perhaps they should consider getting a proper job if they are so unhappy...

I think sometimes that the internet was simply responsible for deflating the industry. Through the 80's and 90's the financial aspect of it became bloated.
