Pioneer CT-330 & Nak BX-1

George (Bobbysdad) was so kind to donate a couple of decks to me that needed attention. The pioneer was very important to me as it was the first decent deck I used at the age of 6 (my uncle owned one), was blown away about the music search as this was the first time I had seen this feature in a deck. This was a big step up from the PYE shoebox tape deck I owned at the time. Within hours of receiving it I had the belts replaced with what I could find in my spares box, it runs well and performs good for a deck of its age, even music search works flawlessly. The Idler tyre had to be re-surfaced and I consider myself lucky that it has not rotted with age. The date on the motor is 1982. I really like the bright VU meter lights on this deck, brings back some good childhood memories. The record level control slider needs to be glued back together as it was brittle and broke while I was disassembling the deck (oops). I have replaced the cassette door cover with another one from a Pioneer CT-350.

The second deck donated is a Silver Nakamichi BX-1. This one needs a new capstan belt and I had to free up the swing arm which the idler tyre runs on between the two reel drives. I still have a bit of work to do on this one as the speed won't stay consistent. Failing that it will make a good parts donor deck for my existing black BX-1.

Yeah I was going a bit stir crazy there hehe A bit of tape deck therapy went down well, now for some JBL Therapy, better than those damn pills

.... yeh, the JBL's are more like suppositories.
(watch the corners, and use plenty of lubricant.)

Derek: Before this thread, you posted a picture of the CT-330 in another thread, but I hadn't clued in that it was a cassette deck you had just received. Regardless, I'm happy to see you got it back in service. Of that same vintage, I have good experience with the TOTL Pioneer CT-9R. It does have a common flaw amongst all CT-9Rs with the auto-reverse mechanism mechanically failing. Otherwise, I might consider one for myself.

And a parts Nakamichi BX-1 will go a long way as back up to your other one.
