Marantz SD 9000 any thoughts?

There has been an SD 9000 for sale for some time within a decent traveling distance of me. The deck apparently needs octocouplers. Its a very nice looking 3 head. Anyone know what kind of work is involved in changing the octocouplers. I dont really need another deck lying around waiting for repair. But, if its not a terribly lengthy repair, I may consider grabbing this deck and have it serviced. So I ask to you guys, any thoughts on these decks?

I read that the optocouplers are reel sensors. Have you found a source for replacement sensors, Ben. If so, maybe it is something you could do with some guidance. That's a unique 2-speed cassette deck. If you bought it for less than $200, and put in less than another $200 you would have a great deck. I love the looks and features of the Marantz SD 9000.

At the faster tape speed you will get performance results equal to an open-reel deck.

I had an SD-8000 once, but it needed so much work that I sold it. They look cool and were nice when new, unfortunately IO think they are overly complicated when it comes to repairing.

I think this quote says it all. I can get the deck for about 75 dollars. But not really worth the hassle to get it running.

Well for $75 it depends upon how much work you can do or want to do? I think I paid $25 for mine about 13 years ago, thinking it would be an easy fix with new belts. I opened it up and it looked impossible to work on. I ended up selling it again for the same price.
