As usual I try to hit up VV and SVDP as much as can, depending on my available free time.

This past week I hit both.

I found a pack of 5 cassettes for 1.99, but, I only bought it for one in particular. I noticed an unfamiliar packaging on this particular cassette.

A vintage package and price tag!!!!

For those that dont recognize the price tag, its Woolco, bought out by Walmart many moons ago. Contrary to the belief (of some) that cassettes are like precious metals, (which in some cases they are :toothy10:), were going for very low rates at one point. Also an interesting packaging for any that, like me, enjoy BASF tape.

Something you dont see every day thats for sure.

As I remember it Woolco had a tape themselves rebranded of course. Theirs was also Type 1 and II but I don't think Metals were out when they had their tape.

You can't go wrong with BASF cassette blanks, Ben. Thanks for posting a picture of the packaging. I happen to be using a BASF CE II this evening for recording your brother's Classic Rock mix tape.

Nice find, I will pick up BASF's if I see them too.

I don't mind BASF tapes now, used to dislike them greatly. I experienced a few of them gumming up the heads on my decks and when I switch between tape and source on my JVC deck I can tell the difference in sound quality, BASF's also saturate at a much lower recording level. TDK's always beat them when it comes to sound quality, recording level headroom, and cleanliness of the tape itself. The BASF chrome extra and chrome super beta tapes are outstanding when compared to the sony and tdk's but are slightly more hard on head wear.

Overall I will still use BASF tapes if I don't have any tdk or sony's left when it comes to cassettes. HiFi Betatape wise BASF definately have an edge, love that shiny dark chrome look to the tape:thumbleft:

If I ever got a hold of some BASF Chrome Maxima IIs, I think I would find them amongst the best in Type II tape. I have a sealed one which I am not opening, unfortunately. I may even have a Metal Maxima IV.

I have not had experience with these Nando, but have had a nice run with Ferro Maximas, they performed well in the JVC. I think it also has a lot to do with how the deck is calibrated. The Yamaha KX-530 seemed to love BASF tapes record wise. I am certainly more opened minded about BASF these days.

The BASF was not responsible for gumming up my betahifi heads either, it was a Sony :banghead: after all these tapes are nearly 30 years old.
