This evening I scored #2 in absolute state of new!

Most of the people who received a mixtape from me are knowing what these decks (which are built like a tank) are capable of.......

Congrats!

You've done it once again, Miles. What's your secret for finding such nice decks?

Nnado.

The secret is: Being there at the right moment.

I think this is a BIG score! I love these decks!

@Blaze: Thanks for the compliments!

You're welcome man!

These decks represent the pinnacle of Sony engineering.
If you think about it, that transport just continued to evolve from about 1988 to what you have there; not in huge steps but rather prudent, deliberate, robustness enhancing steps.
And more importantly, no drastic re-design.
Sure the last range of Sony & Sony ES gear started to suffer from cost-cutting, but IMHO these "cuts" were from the edges, taking away ADDED (and quite possibly superfluous) features no longer
demanded by the marketplace;

for instance

CD Direct
Side panels
Compartmentalized sections
Copper chassis treatments

to name just a few.

Side Panels, CD direct? What I like the most about these decks are their reliability, simplicity and most of all their soundquality.

Only problem now is: which one shall I use? :toothy10:

Yes, sharing the love gets to be problematic if you have too many :toothy10:

I've said it for years now;
all those qualities you've mentioned - all of that inherent goodness - it all stems from that nearly bullet-proof mechanism.

I like the idea of having a twin of one of your most-used cassette deck. For many of us who frequently record tapes, like Miles, I say that a double of your favourite deck is a good idea. I would hate to have one of my decks out of service for too long. It hasn't happened, yet, but I'm sure it will.

Nando.

I've got a lot of Sony QS components, including this one:

All well build (no plastic crap), and they never let me down.

Ow yes, but tell me: Where can you find another V9000 for 'let's say' $35,- ??

Luck was on my side in case of this second Sony.

Miles: No, I doubt I would find a suitable twin for less than what I paid for mine, which was 1/2 of retail price. I did get a Nakamichi RX-505 for $15, however. That model of Sony deck for $35 wouldn't pop up here, and I do a lot of hunting at thrift stores.

Nando.

Congratulations for your new decks Miles, they look built like a tank indeed and they sounds like a charm, your tapes made with that Sony simply rocks :thumbleft:

Sometimes happens Nando considering they are old gear no matter how newish they look, dried grease, gooey belts or alignments issues for example it's enough to give lots of headaches and a full service from time to time is the way to go, also having an replacement for any case can help a lot :thumbright:

This afternoon I gave number two a good listen playing one of my "reference tapes" ...

This tape contains the complete mix I did exlusively for Daren (Dazen1 at TH's) in digital format:

This thing sounds like a clock!

A very good looking stack of Sony decks, Miles. The Sony CDP looks like a match for your cassette decks. That's what I like to see!

Nando.

You gots it going on Miles!

As for the Sony decks... It all started with the 555 ES II I owned:

Nice deck, but with a mileage that was far too high.. too many issues on it, so I tossed it.
