Speaker movement after amp turned off question.

The 10KuF 100V caps that I stock are 4 pin on 22.4mm diameter mounting circle.

Is your application a wire in or attached to a PCB?

If a wire in, the mounting circle diameter will not matter. If for a PCB replacement, then it will.

The other 2 pins are just for locating purposes and may be left or clipped off.

They are wire in.

Discharge or charge.

On turnon, the bulk caps will charge fully in a couple of cycles, about 50msec unless the amp has some special soft start features in it.

On discharge, depending on the size of the bulk caps, it could take 30 seconds or longer. In the PL amps with increased bulk caps, this takes over 15 seconds.

With Lickety Split, playing at an audible level it takes right at 15 seconds once you unplug it. Another 15 seconds waiting for turnoff thump, which never comes.....

Jim, this counterfeit thing is real. I bought some Hitachi 100 volt, 22,000uf power supply caps and they lasted one year. The bass in my Spec 2 was slowly going away until it's almost impossible to listen to. That may not be my only probl;em but when something the size of a Pepsi can starts bulging it's kinda obvious.

I am currently using an Adcom gfa 5400 with Phase Linear 2000 pre amp. After I turn my amp off the speakers move a little bit, looks like they suck in then push back out. I was told this is my amp. My main concern is, is this doing any harm to my speakers? Speakers are - Energy Connoisseur Series C-5.

If it doesn't thump I wouldn't worry about it. Does it happen if you turn off the Adcom first and then shut off the pre amp?

Once I turn the amp off it takes about a second for this to happen. Should I stop using this amp?

I put away a Pioneer QX-8000 about four years ago that was still shutting off and hissing at a minute past turning the switch off. Someday I'll get it fixed but the dialstringing of the JVC 4VR-5446 CD-4 quad receiver and reassembly comes first, it alway sorta spanked the QX when played though my old Utah A-90s!
