Busted the beast out of the box tonight, so figured I could get this going while some more parts come in and get working on the outputs and general cleaning..

First, the RACK (gotta put 'er in there.. she's purty and sounds great.....)

Looks like some ghastly unfortunate incident had befallen our patient before! Time for another trip to mouser - both channels aren't looking healthy here!

Looks like the fuses were the slow blow type to do all that damage...when will people learn?
 
Yeah I agree.. but here's also some more damage! After this I figured I had better check the driver that was there. I have a short base to collector and a blown open base to emitter junction on one of the SJ2741's. Dang... that is a dilemma there, Joe. I DO have the 4 RCA 410's pulled from the ole 700, but I pulled them because I was seeing some oscillation going. What do you think Joe? What's "out there" that I can get on order, if I need to?

Look at this... socket was completely non-working....

Took a good guess (ey my memory sucks, sue me... hehe)... Going with 15024's for drivers and 21194's for outputs... Let's see how those two do with each other, eh?
 
Not well in the lower half Jer, the 15024s are too slow when compared with the RCA410s

Yeah I'll try the 410's first and see if they work better than in the 700. But.. as was said a long time ago and awhile back...

WE CAN REBUILD IT!!... Louder! More Power! Big Blue VU's!!!

Hey Jer,

This looks familiar - kinda like the one from AK that is missing the controller board. It seems that it has other issues but should be a fun one to put back together.

Good luck and I'm looking forward to seeing your progress.
 
Jer, how many sockets ya need, Ed sent me some awhile ago, I can put them in with te rest of the stuff also. The RCA-410's driving the 21194's is a sweet combination. Check those 410's out, I can also send you some of those.

.130 to be exact. Just miked some, Range---.127-.132

Jer the ones I use are 0.030" but there are sockets that have these bosses anywhere from 0.030" up to 0.060"

There are a lot in the range of 0.045-0.050" The bosses need to be less than the sheet metal thickness which is 0.062"

Heatsinks are .125, but they lack .020-.025 of coming out flush...
 
Hey Jerry, glad to see work started on the beast. Glad you are doing it because I am lost just in the terminology so far. Yes folks, this is the one I posted on AK, I knew it needed work but not how much work. Hopefully, it will be coming back to me. I just bought a pair of Infinity Quantum 5s that love power and I am sure this will make them thunder

I am almost willing to bet that that damage occurred by the guy I got this from who was having a house cleanout sale. He probably plugged it in not realizing the control board was missing. I bet he got the arc of his life LOL
 
It's even more of a surprise when it happens when it's opened up like that and you're bending over it within a foot...

I woke my wife from a dead sleep one morning with a slip of the probe on my 700B shortly after I got it. BOOM!!!

Didn't need coffee that day!

I thought I respected it. Now I do! :-)

It's in good hands - glad you're getting it repaired. When it's all said and done you'll need to let us know how it sounds as a system. What preamp will you be using?

IF I get it back, it will be my Perreaux SA3 or a Carver CT-24 that sounds surprisingly good, I don't care about the tuner, I don't listen to radio except in the car
