Hey Everybody! :-D

I have two of these decks in various states of disrepair. I got one of them many years ago when buying a complete system locally back in St. Louis and one I grabbed as a non worker at an audio meet. The fist deck mentioned played but with issues iirc and the second deck does not power up as I remember.

I have a friend here I'd like to get into a nice deck and I thought I'd give him one of these (unless it walks on my Nakamichi CR-2) and it would be cool to have the second one to keep and use for myself.

I'll probably start tearing into these to see what's going on. I hope with some common sense and help from folks around here to get both these decks running if possible.

Pics to come......

Wowser, I have two of these decks too. Great decks when they are working. Crossing my fingers as both of mine worked the last time I used them.

What is the problem with the ones you have?
I'm not sure right now, Web. I put them in the box 4 years ago when we left St Louis and this is the first time I've looked at them. I hope to have them out and tested (with pics) this weekend. I had not thought about them for a while but I recently hooked a friend up with his first vintage system and all he's missing is a tape deck. That reminded me about these.

Well, here's a crappy pic:

And some good news, both decks play. I've not tried to record yet. Only issue I've seen so far is the display on the top deck is not lit. I can see the meters moving and the tape counter clicking off numbers but it's not lit up. Any chance this will be an easy fix?

Might be.. if it's like the yamaha I had, there is actually a little light bulb that provides the light for the meters. Look for a single or two wire cable sticking out the back of the display module with a rubber grommet - If I recall, giving it a very EASY slight pull should pull the bulb out for replacing.

Thanks for the tip Jer. I'll poke around in it in a bit. I just finished cleaning it up. This will make a nice Christmas gift to my friend and will complete the vintage system we've put together for him recently.

Don't know. You have to find the power source to the VF display drivers and locate the open part. Could be the display(s) developed a leak (V is for VACUUM tube).
