Jon, I was refering to your statement, or at least I gathered that much, that you had problems with imaging across a room. That is what I mean when I talk about 'cancellation'.

I have a single Bose 301 Music Master II(?) cabinet and crossover that was empty so I put an Altec 30867 (Model One 8") and some small midrange in it and got the grilles from eBay eventually. It works fine that way. Mono (stray) boxes are fun for me too. I have a Polk Monitor 4 with a 6502 I think it is, been over 8 years since I got it, replaced the blown original and It's a kick as well.

Yup, I have a good grasp of cancellation and what it takes to over come it (when possible). I assumed you were referring to the very tall Sachikos I posted first? They actually have a half tower version too that is a little easier to build. I've never heard them so I'm not sure how much of a difference it really makes. I DID experiment with stuffing either/both horn mouths in those (the previous owner supplied some very nice pillows for the job!) but imaging was never really the problem. Most of the single driver speakers actually tend to image better than most multi-driver setups I've had experience with including some of the older snells that actually have a rear-firing tweeter to help compensate, the polk SDA stuff (crossover cable in use) and the pretty rare pair of Infinity WTLC towers that have drivers firing in every possible direction you can imagine.

The big thing about the single driver speakers is that, horn mouths not withstanding, they tend to act like a point source and you don't get the cancellation at crossover points that you might get (and attempt to compensate for) with more conventional multi-driver speakers, especially the classic pyramid of power configuration (three way). Another benefit is it's crossoverless design which adding a rear firing mid to might have to negate.

I know a lot about speakers but the one most important thing I've learned is that *I don't know nearly everything* and I'm always happy to hear suggestions, and participate in discussions that I might learn from! :)

I can't remember the Yamaha model I had for over a dozen years (talking about your sig list now) and I have KLH Sixes not 23s.

If I ever get around to puttng them together I have Altec Stonehenge I in the lving rom as well and CS-31 and some 1998 Pioneer AV rears in front at the computer as my A and V pair on the SX-D7000.

In the bedroom my CS-K835 4-ways feature the original 8" and two other vintage Pioneers (one either CS-77 or 88, I forget right now) and Onkyp T-something from a pair of massacreed CBS Masterwork wedge speakers from the 70s (maybe sister to a Pacific Stereo model?) and I love the overall sound better with the Onkyos in! My first real homebrewed pair were Altev Model Three cabs with Corona 10" and originally 60s square framed paper tweeters adaped to the round holes...they were very bright and then one blew and I put some 80s? big black round Jensen domes in.

This is the logo I made for my Asynchronous rebuilt speakers below. The amp is a Rickenbacher Electro

Jon, that's why we're here, to learn and enjoy what we are learning. Thanks for being here.
