Ok.. I'll put me foot in me mouth here. Wouldn't be the first time, eh? :glasses1:

Sooo.. with the Grado Black, I think my eyes have been opened. I put on Heartbeat City by The Cars tonight, and out of my very meager collection that had to be the best sounding one yet.

So good, that I hit ebay hard tonight. Got some Dire Straits... Alan Parsons... both lots of at least 3 LP's. Someone stop me... heheheh... Today I went to the Goodwill, and that was a big bust. Besides, some ole grizzly adams dude had been there a few mins before me and took all the good ones.. grrrr...

(turns off stereo... computer... walks away... LOL... :blob5:)

pssst.. hey Larry... got any that you listened to, and went "Meh... this album's 'ok' but... " that I might be interested in?... jonesin' :help:

Here is another. Me and Music Direct have fought. Took 2 months to get one LP from them so I don't buy from them. These guys may take awhile. If you want it it will be on the this site. Amazon has a lot also. I have bought a few from here and Sound Stage.

Most of my records are purchased, locally, at the used goods store we have in Squamish. Fortunately, Vancouver has many new and used record stores which I find many good to excellent LPs. London Drugs, here in Squamish, has been selling re-releases and new-release LPs, mostly in 180 gram vinyl for a little less than a year. Where the store, perhaps, stocked 10 new LPs, initially, there are at least 50 on the shelves, now. In fact, I pointed out to the Dept. Manager the shelf was beginning to bow under the weight of all the LPs. He never had that problem with CDs.

I found a great place, beyond local for me but worth a drive. Mystery Train Records in Gloucester, MA. The place is all used and absolutely HUGE. It's well organized, and the prices are half of what other dealers around here sell. $5. Also when I was in NYC, I went to J&R, and they have a massive selection of new vinyl. It's nice to pop in a shop but online prices will likely trump them, but not always! I don't know if I'll ever go back to NYC though lol.

There are plenty of titles in classic rock genre that were well-mastered in their original pressings. A few of the good ones: Fleetwood Mac-Tango In The Night, Little River Band-The Net, Heart-Magazine, Dire Straits-Love Over Gold, Bruce Cockburn-most titles, Supertramp-Crime Of The Century....

There are so many good ones, Jerry. I hope you don't become disappointed with the record-cleaning process, though.

Jer write me blank check and I'll help you out. Now you need a phono stage. Record cleaner. I wish my GEM Dandy would get here. I want to see how good it works. This new Led I got I have cleaned a bunch. I won't put a new LP on without cleaning it.

Hehe.. I'll stick with what I have for now. Going to probably get one of those ole D4 kits if they're still around.

Might go for a higher level Grado.. never know... :glasses1:

The new Discwasher kits have a really cheap looking brush with them now. Better than nothing I'd guess.

I used to use Discwasher liquid and brush for cleaning (back when the brush was high quality). I now use a carbon brush (can't remember the brand) and no fluid, and records are quieter than with the Discwasher. There maybe wet cleaning systems out there that work well, but I would never go back to using Discwasher again. I really thought it was good stuff back in the day.

I've tried Grado Red, Gold, and now listening to the Ref. Platinum 1 wood bodied cartridge (cheapest wood body). Have not heard the Black but like all of the Grado's I've heard, and would love to keep moving up, but they seem to want more money each time!

I have D4 I'll give you. If you need other things go to Sleeve City and tell me what you want. On a cart. I think the Shure M97xe has a P mount. It is a very good cart for the price.

Watch out folks, Jer has discovered analog...
(ebil me :cyclopsani:)

And then... I hear I Robot from Alan Parsons, but "flac" via the Xonar....

I go "both ways", big boy... heheheh just kiddin' around. Seriously tho ... each format has good recordings and bad ones. I do like the sound of the Grado tho, so I'm looking forward to the LP's coming my way shortly.

Man are you talking to the wrong guy. My collection has gone from 150 to 1800 in a year. Lol. Just cant stop. I changed stylus to the Grado 8MZ and what a difference it has made. Also I know its alot of money but for the size of my collection I went with the VPI 16.5 RCM and it has been one of the best investments I have made in my vinyl collection. One of these days I'm gonna sell some of my doubles and triples to recoup some cost but until I need the cash I would rather spend my time listening.
