DC voltage at filter caps

I'm going from memory (which should not be trusted) of a past experience.

If a schematic shows voltage at large filter caps as 42 volts but with those filter caps removed, 52 volts is measured....is that expected?

Gary if the caps are out and the bridge rectifier sees an open and not load then quite possibly the result you have
