what are you listening to?

Not sure about the Pro-Ject Vinyl NRS unit but I know with the Sugar-Cube, you can actually listen to JUST the pops and clicks !
That is pretty interesting, you can actually hear only what is being removed from the recording......

I saw that on Sweet Vinyl's web site. I didn't see anything like that in Pro-Ject's description on their web site. For $400, I doubt not, but who knows.

I wonder, as well, if/how well it works on audio files ripped from vinyl? I assume it would be seeing the same input. I've still got a raw copy of the Bangla Desh concert album. That's a real test and I have Nando's clean copy to compare to. If it will work downstream of the Tascam converter, I might have to add a patch bay to switch between the turntable and the computer.

@Bob Boyer: The Sugar Cube will clean up audio files that have been digitized. Even some files, strictly recorded from a digital source, can have the odd audible artifacts that can be processed through it. I have my Sugar Cube patched into my dbx 400 Route Selector through the processor tape loop. So, even when I play a mix cassette, open reel or other analog signal going through the dbx router that was recorded from vinyl, I can eliminaate any pops and clicks on the fly.

Nando.

I still have my dbx 200 switcher as well, though I had some question about whether it was working properly when I removed it from the system. I could probably use it to do what you're doing, Nando. Assuming it's working, of course. I don't know why I was having issues - it's completely passive.

Probably dirty... Passive stuff magnifies dirty contacts.

Listening to that Stravinsky Firebird album through the Pro-Ject NRS box after comparing a couple of raw vs NRS-processed vs Nando's Sugar Cube processed cuts from the Bangla Desh Concert album and I have to say, I'm impressed. Yes, the NRS plays nice with a signal from the Tascam converter. It may be time to hit the switches in the dbx 200 with some Deoxit and see if that helps...

I'd still like to play with a Sugar Cube in real time, but I'm hearing maybe 75% of what a Sugar Cube can do, based on the Bangla Desh album cuts. For 20 - 25% of the price of a Sugar Cube, it's as advertised. You still can't go crazy buying the 50-cent albums and thinkng they'll sound like new, but for any record graded Good to VG or above, it makes a nice difference. Since I don't go dumpster diving, this will keep me until a Sugar Cube comes along.

This technology is as advertised. Nicely done, Pro-Ject.
