700 Series 1 Build

Starting a new 700 build for member @Gibsonian.

This will be an interesting adventure grafting a 700 Series 1 transformer, faceplate, meters, and switches onto a full WOPL new chassis build.

After a few component donations from Lee, I should have all parts to needed to complete the build.

Here are the initial components I have to work with:

Interesting factory connections to the meters... No need for solder when you can twist oxidized leads together.

Cap cradle updated to accept mounting bolt isolation washers.

Filled pockets with JB weld and drilled out for correct diameter to accomodate bushings.

Installed new rubber grommets for wire pass-through holes.

That's what I been talkin about..... The original PL amps are so bad, only a retread would use them without a FULL BLOWN WOPL CONVERSION. Anything partial is destined for failure. Little ol ladies can make cookies but they can't make a fuckin amp worth a shit.

They were still figuring it out when they built these amps...try this resistor, no not that one, the other one...

You are in very good hands with Eric executing this one of a kind build.

It's like Christmas in September, all the WO parts arrived yesterday.

Started control board assembly today.
- Washed hands of all oils and contaminants
- Washed control board PCB with alcohol and dried (can never be too clean)
- stuffed and soldered all diodes and resistors
- Cleaned and inspected under magnification

I like where this is going. Think of the series I 700 as the “coffee can” amp with a big ol’ isolation transformer.

Eric, are you going with LED fuse lamps in the original holders, or ?
It's good to see a 700 S1 finally getting the "Treatment".
It'll be interesting to see the rail voltages and how hot they wound the transformer.

I will most likely stay with the original lamps for the meters and power indicator, replacements are still available.

I measured the transformer when determining the preferred primary Line/Neutral orientation, but forgot what the secondary measured. We’ll find out soon enough.

Cleaned multiple times with Isopropyl Alcohol and inspected under magnification.

Pictures loaded in high resolution for all your pixel peeping enjoyment...

Just to ensure Mark's OCD doesn't send him into convulsions, all Phillips head screw slots aligned... Unlike my last build.

What a hack..... The screws on the Phoenix connector are all standing around like civillians.

Then you can "time" the Phoenix connectors on the front ....before and after....all screw slots aligned .
