I know we have some Simon Posford (Shpongle, Hallucinogen, Younger Brother) aficionados here on the Forum. I had pre-ordered the Hallucinogen ReMaster set of 4 albums back in early May, and it was just mailed out. With the purchase you get the digital download, and that was just made available today. First listen of the digital versions through the WOPL’d 700b and the LaScalas, sounds mighty fine !!!! I have been collecting vinyl since 1964 and am really looking forward to giving these newly remastered versions of Twisted (1995) 2LP’s and The Lone Deranger (1997) 2LP’s a listen. I listen to all different types of music, and while Posford’s music is not for everyone, I love it. The vinyl recordings of any of his music are quite hard to find and very expensive when you do. This was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up. Will repost a review when I receive the vinyl, but the digital music is great!

As an addendum to my previous post, the more I listened to the digital version of this remastered Hallucinogen set, I found that the sound stage on many tracks was 270° which is amazing. Any of Posfords work always has a great sound stage, but this seems to be some new engineering in the remastering. Not only a full stereo front L, R, and center soundstage, but pretty impressive direct left, direct right, almost over my shoulder effects. Very enjoyable. Was shipped out of Chobham, UK on Saturday. I run my digital music through a Schiit Gungnir DAC and while the music sounds amazing, the vinyl always sounds richer…..can’t wait to hear the vinyl.

I agree, Simon's music isn't for everybody ( don't get that) but i do indeed love every bit of it. Always well engineered and mastered. Never heard a bad Posford track... bout the time I think the horns can handle anything at 120 db plus I put on "God Particle"....the explosion and subsequent diffusion has taken more woofs than anything...

Ahhhhh, "The God Particle"
As Raja Ram said " I would say that Shpongle is a drug that's administered through the ears"
My "baby horns" sure make it an enjoyable listen,....... always :D.
You would really enjoy this new mastering Lee.

A little Jazz and some kick ass Blues today. Blew the dust off of this John Hammond album
and cranked the WOPL'd 700b...... Chased the spiders out of their webs !!!! :D.
If you love the Blues, Hammond is one of the best ever.......but if you love the Blues, you already know that !

Today a little Blues/Rock – Georgia Peach Music and some Texas Blues.
I bought the Allman Brothers Live at the Filmore East album new in 1971. To this day it has to be one of my top 10 favorite albums of all time. This is the original, and while they have re-released it, remastered it, added to it, this one still sounds the best to me. No detail can hide listening through the WOPL 700b. It is a masterpiece.

Each of these guys is a master in his own right, and Copeland and Cray learned from Albert Collins.
Very enjoyable album…played loud !

First pressing, that's nice. I listen to one of the remastered vinyl versions that came out about 15 years ago or so; it's quite good. The first copy I had was a Quad disc, which sounded kind of thin, as I recall. Should have hung onto it but I sold it off after getting the remaster. Some days I'm an idiot.

Just found the 2014 release of Fillmore East with nearly complete recordings from all three nights over on the Pro Studio Masters hi-res download site. $82 in 24 bit/192 kHz resolution, less for 24/96 and FLAC files. It's titled The 1971 Fillmore East Recordings. Artwork looks to be the same as the original album. Have no idea if there's a vinyl version or not.

Hi Bob,
That 2014 release of all 3 nights is a great set to have. For me that music is precious and having the complete (or more complete) set of recordings is fantastic. 24bit/192 will sound amazing as well. Great score.
There is a vinyl edition of the 2014, 3 night remaster. It is a 4 record set, and goes for between $300 and $400. Great material to have.

Gene, I have no idea. Pops are usually static electricity heard on AM.

It would be a sure candidate for transfer to 15 ips reel to reel if I still owned such.

It definitely would Bob.
I had a TEAC A-7010 GSL Auto Reverse/Ferrite Head reel to reel in the 70's, and sold it when I moved, about 1980. I had so much fun with that deck, and it was the party favorite, because I could put together tapes for certain groups, and it would play all night. Great memories there! I have often thought about getting back into it, but .....so little time. I have wished I kept that deck many, many times. Never had a bit of trouble with it, just took really good care of it maintenance wise.

I miss my Revoxes every now and then; still have the PR99 at work, sitting in wood side panels I made for it. But this room is so small and with a desk tucked in the corner, there's just no space. The iMac for my digital files is clutter enough sitting on top of the record shelves.
