I applaud the work that Costa Rica has done to have one of the lowest carbon emissions in the world for production of electricity in their grid. Being the sustainability guy that I am at work, I deal with the emission factors of every country in the world and CR is a stand out.

So Gene, you can blast away in the comfort of knowing you are not endangering the planet.

solar...
conservation...
they do try to protect the natural environment...it is illegal to cut most types of trees more than 6" diameter...for example...
it is a nice place to retire...nice place to live..
though not perfect...as that really does not exist!!!

Guessing that the downside is that if you have to purchase energy from the grid, the KWhr rate is high. They usually go hand in hand, low emissions = high KWhr rate.
