Your amp is quasi-complementary output. To make it full-complimentary, you'd need to remove the entire point to point wired back wall and sockets, and build a new one from a schematic. Bad idea, as Joe has engineered a complementary output back wall circuit board, one for each channel. Very rugged and well engineered. And not that hard to do if you can solder, follow instructions, and are mechanically inclined.
Sniff is correct.
Spot-on! What George and Perry said. This ^

Always Thinking Outside The Box.
so....i can modify the original backplane to work with the new transistors...
i much prefer to do that...save me a few bucks...and there is nothing wrong with mine...
i will be upside down in this no matter what because of the additional charges i have to pay to get things here...and my mistakes...
but, it is a hobby....just trying to get by losing as little skin off my nose as possible...lol
i think this amp did not see much service....it is not beat up at all...not one spec of rust or signs of anybody ever removing the cover...really clean...
but, as joe and sniff said...those were not high quality boards to begin with...and easily damaged or detiorated over time....
we shall see!!!!
i did place my order with joe....he can further advise me!!!!
THANK YOU...
Yes, The Control boards are not the best quality, even when they were brand new , I will be upgrading to the new WO boards went I get time.
The original backplane are solid IMO their nothing wrong w them if the sockets are good. But you have to modify it to work for Full Comp.

You are are a real sucker for pain if you try and modify that backplane Gene. You think you blew up some shit already? Wait till the new WOPL board and all the OP transistors are both toast. Just saying.
thank you so much....i want to hear both sides of the coin....and will speak with joe too...when he gets in touch...

Gene, if you want to continue the madnesso_O, this Monday I can mail you two original 400 control boards. One is from a 8 fin S1, the other from a 1978 S2. No idea if they're good, but I bought them face to face local and the guys said the amps worked. I never plugged them in to see.
Think I can get them into a USPS smaller flat rate box. You can make a contribution to the sites maintenance fund to cover the postage. The boards are free and your welcome to them for the postage, but I think your throwing good money away.

Screw it
yes, your opportunity to say "i told you so"...
lol...
you aint gonna pass on that are you??

lol....

Nope, I just like seeing you making a great decision which you will not regret. I worked on them backplanes and control boards.... They aint worth the cracked solder and 40 Lbs of old flux and shit wire they were built with.

Yes I did, 400II w the original Backplane and Original board (w some Modifications ) , I don't know if your backplane is different than the one I did (400II and 700II) Your original board will not work for Full comp, you will need a WO Board.

I recommend you reach out to Mark Lucitt and have him expertly build you as set of assembled backplanes and control board and ship them to you.

In that way, you will have an expertly built set of assemblies to modify your amp with. Building the backplanes requires very good equipment, George and Perry can testify to that.

Modifying the existing back wall wiring can certainly happen but you are left with 45 year old sockets and less than desirable components and wiring on that back wall with (much) less than ideal electrical design.

Your call Gene, you are looking for recommendations.

well, sniff...i cant say that i would have done the same....
always kick a man when he is down....you are less likely to get hurt....unless he has a pistol...my old dad told me...check his pockets...

if i stumble on a cheap 400...i have quite a collection of parts....
you never know...
joe...will the pl series boards replace the 400c boards??
a man can never have enough tools or parts....

I think that's the best option for you,
and you will have everything done Right and Tested,
You will also have to post pics here, so you don't make mistakes as you build it Since we all make mistakes
the best mistakes are hopefully cause w a Picture, than it can be fixed. as we all have to double check every step and every wire . more than once.
