Your scratchiness could well be the offset pot you adjusted just being dirty. That happens, especially after 40+ years. Likely one of the reasons that PL eventually got rid of that adjustment, along with cost reduction being a consideration.
my 78 model sx1080 has an offset adjustment along with idle current setting...a little more tricky for me...one on each driver board...
thanks

Deoxit is a name brand of contact cleaner. What you have will probably work, but let's hope those old trimmers don't fall apart. They weren't very good quality even when new.
Unplug it, put it on the bench with a rag or paper towel in the appropriate place to catch the residue, lightly spray it, gently work it back and forth, repeat, turn all the way down, and then readjust. Good luck.

Screw it
only thing i got to deox with is contact cleaner...
cant find anything else here....

Yeah, contact cleaner won't do it. Deoxit like Lee says and some fader grease and it will be good for years. F100L or DFG is needed for the long haul. Just spray Deoxit works but you'll be doing it again and again.

You can always order new pots from Mouser. They have comparable units which will work perfectly and only cost a couple dollars. I have bought volume pots and the pots on the PL-14-20 boards from Mouser.

My post earlier was more directed to volume pots and the need for some fader grease. If you are just doing the resistor pots on the boards, you CAN use the contact cleaner but when the pots sat in one spot for 40 years with no exercise, cleaning them can be futile. Some had silver contacts and they do corrode after time. An industrious young lad could wire in some variable resistors and they will work just fine.
