Has anyone considered or tried to use one of these for the power transformer in a PL400 or 700? Other than physical constraints, what would be the electrical issues? Considerations for magnetic shielding?

There are 3 of us that have kicked around the idea of some monster monos using the White Oak goodies. Cascade the drivers for one channel and outboard power supply using 2 750 va toroids with a 169 volt center tapped secondary giving 118 +/- on the rails. Double the above for stereo. I have had the parts gathered up for a few years as had Glen and Perry.
 
I was thinking along the same lines. Instead of buying a PL400 or 700 for essentially just the chassis and power transformer, you could do a White Oak in a chassis of your own design. The PL700s in particular are getting quite pricey.
 
Yep. And I have entertained the idea of a custom faceplate with one meter hole. Thereby being able to use the White Oak light boards or LED meter assemblies..
 
The one I was looking at, Hammond 1182T60, Digikey sells for $196 or the 1182R60 for $150. Both have secondaries of 120vct, which would give about +/-80vdc power supply - roughly equivalent to the PL400. The T model is 1500va, the R model is 1000va. But I see the advantage of using two transformers with just a single secondary - no center tap. I haven't tried to price them.

This auction is for a TOROIDAL POWER TRANSFORMER these were to be used in the mackie M 1400 Power Amplifier. Acording to mackie data they put out 80 and 90 volts after rectification (see pict 3). This transformer has a 230V input so if used with 115V the output would be half as much.

I have the same toroid with 100v input

The transformer seems to have 60-0-60 and 65-0-65 center-tapped secondaries. What the schematic diagram is evidently showing, albeit not too well, is a rectified output of +/-80V and +/-90V (or 160V and 180V peak-to-peak).

So I bought one of the Craig's List transformers noted in Post #10. Bought a 100v input one (must have been for the Japanese market), but intend to run it with 120vac. That should give 72 - 0 - 72 vac out on the secondary (on the 60 - 0 - 60 taps), which should give about +/-100 vdc power supply.

Test to ensure you don't saturate the core running in that mode.
