So I've had a can of this sitting around, mainly used for door hinge treatment around the house, and today I found a new use for it that might come in handy for some of you.
I have a couple of TiVo DVRs in the household with remotes that are 5+ years old. I've taken a couple apart to see how the button assembly layers are arrange because as these things age out - the buttons tend to get squeaky, get bound up or simply less responsive to the touch. The actual switch layer is comprised of sealed bubble micro switches on the actual PCBA so contamination wasn't much of a concern when I dove into this adventure. I tried a few various silicone based lubes I had around but none of effectively returned the buttons to a factory fresh feel or level of actuation and a few products were too oily in composition. Purely by accident, I stumbled on this rather aged can of this stuff I had tucked away, deep in a cabinet and decided to give it a shot. All of the other lubes I had around were pretty runny and in some cases made the buttons sticky.

What's cool about this stuff is that it doesn't attack the plastic (shiny) surfaces of the remote control.
So I sprayed some into a small cup (... think of those small cups restaurants serve side condiments in...) and used a eye dropper to grab & apply some of the collected liquid into the spaces around the offending buttons & rocker controls (volume up & down and the channel switching...) and voila ! - the carrier evaporated quickly and laid down a dry coat to the interference areas of the buttons.
Color me impressed. The remotes feel like new.
If you want to add a good all-purpose lube to your toolbox of stuff, this may one to get.
