Gentlemen,

I am brand new to the community and have picked up a 700B that is getting the full WOPL treatment. I would like a few pointers and maybe share any results you may have had along the way...
My first nagging question is about the RCA input wiring and switch .... I see some pics without any isolation resistors or caps .... Some pics show no switch at all.... Shielded cable direct from the RCA's to the WOPL board ? Can someone point me in the right direction with this ? Undoubtedly the answer is buried in the forum somewhere... I cant seem to find it !
Cheers !

Mattoe.

Matter of preference, I generally bypass and do go direct to pads 1 and 2. Key is to retain the copper shield, solder both grounds to it, and make sure the connectors and shield are insulated with those swag washers on both sides of the hole. Other than that if you want controls, make sure the input spans the pot, and the wiper is back to pad 1.

Thanks for the reply... So , what was the original design idea ? Why would it not be required now ? WO circuitry make it redundant ?

The original idea behind it was to filter out subsonic frequencies and strip any DC from the pre-amp in "normal" mode. In "direct" mode it bypassed the small cap on the input RCA jacks. The 400's never had any input caps, and the same circuit is involved....so whether it really had an advantage is debatable....

I decided to keep the switch and capacitors in my 700B WOPL. Not sure they are needed, but at least I have the option now.

Others just leave the switch to fill the hole in the chassis.

Ground Question ?

Can someone clarify the grounding scheme when using the full WOPL upgrades and the watts DC protect board on the 700B ?

1) RCA input , just shielded cable to the copper ground plane NO case ground ... Yes ?

2) A single ground from pin 6 of the protect board to the star point ground .... Yes ?

The Watts abundant instructions call for multiple grounds.... Notes at the end of the White Oaks instructions say different.....

What is the proper configuration ???
