Well much has happened since I started on my phase linear journey it started when I got a real nice clean working all stock 4 fin pl400 series 1 my plan was to do a WOPL upgrade on it. A day or so after I bought a black face plate for it and an 8 fin chassis from a member here. After a few days I was liking the amp but the amp just does not have enough head room when you crank it up and started thinking I might be better off to put my time and money into a 700b also I was thinking it would be a shame to cannibalize this nice 4 fin 400 to build a 6 fin 400. But then I also felt I committed my self to the 400 with what I had into it already. I'm not sure how much I will gain on head room doing the 400 up as a WOPL amp but I'm thinking the power cap upgrade alone has to help that out quite a bit then add to that all the other WOPL maybe enough to make me happy with the performance of the amp.
So what I have done and decided is to go ahead with the 400 build using the 8 fin chassis. I have solved the problem of hating to cannibalize the nice 400 by buying another working stock 400 series one that looks like it has nice meters and all. The cost of the 2 400 amps combined is still cheaper than 1 decent stock 700b . If when I finish the WOPL 400 if I am still not satisfied then I could sell both amps and have a real good start for money needed to do a 700b. When everything I have bought gets here I will be putting an order into Joe for all his parts, nav for wiring and then mouser, I will also do the speaker protection circuit on it as well to do it right.
