I am for the gas tax increase as long as all the funds go towards road and not mass transit. Our roads and bridges suck big time and need long overdue repairs.

I am always in favor of more spending on roads and more prisons cells. :toothy5:
A gas tax never goes away, and will lead to another one a few years down the road

Maybe they could just add $300 to your license tabs. The people who use the roads need to pay for them. Income taxes never go away, sales taxes never go away. Roads get used and eventually cumble they need maintenence just like a butchers iknives need to be sharpened from time to time.

Since cars get better mileage all the time people buy fewer gallons of gas so it is reasonable to assume the road repair funds are dwindling. We can cut government expenditures in other areas and lower the income taxews, but the raod and bridges need repairs. I guess the best method would be to put a black box in every vehicle and charge you a nickel for every mile you drive, then they could lower the gas tax to zero.

If we cleaned up the welfare programs and make people who are perfectly capable of working get a job we would have enough tax dollars to build a 4 lane highway to the Moon. I'm sick of going to work every morning at 5AM driving a 17 year old Car, while the asshole across the street living in rent affordable housing driving a car 15 years newer than mine, opens his door so his f---king dog can come take a shit on my side of the street

Not syaing that we don't also need a litmus test for freeloaders either, tht should certainly be addressed also. Too many problems and all we have is bozos in office from either party.

And they never spend it for improving the roads. Witness crappier roads every year and higher taxes every year.

And the roads they choose to try to fix, they do a crap job of.

Our ex governor, Deval Patrick was working to do just that in MA. While keeping the gas tax and toll booths. Corruption at its finest.

Thank God he is gone...

and in Minnesota we had about 700 million in taxes collected and not spent, but instead of maybe giving tax rebate back to the people who worked and paid the taxes they spent it on another government building and want to spend the rest on people who contribute nothing

That's normal corrupt governmental behavior.

I agree with you on this one. They either need to save the fund for when we have a deficit, or give the entire surplus back. If they want to spend it, then when we run a deficit my answer would e tough shit cut spending like any family would do.

When steak was 7.99 a pound I could afford to eat it every Sunday now that it's 13.99 a Lb I can only afford to eat it once a month,Government thinks they have a rich uncle they can always go to. for years every politician talks about tax breaks for the Working class and every year the Middle class get F---ked,,The Rich don't care because every time they feel a pinch they just raise the price of their product,, the people on welfare don't care because they will always be the recipient of money one way or the other

In Australia the welfare system here has toughened up a fair bit. To the point where people who are genuinely ill can't get the benefits, because its been screwed by people pretending to be sick and rorting the system in so many ways. Messes it up for others.

When I wasn't well and could not work due to mental illness, I didn't have a hope in hell getting anything more than basic welfare which barely covered the rent, almost lost this rental home. The government makes it that difficult. Its good to keep out people who can genuinely work, but many people fall through the cracks who are genuinely sick and end up on the street if they have no one they can seek help from.

I sold a lot of things I didn't want to, and still couldn't make ends meet. Very thankful for friends and family helping me through, including people on this forum.

One more thing, if you find a job where I live, you better hang onto it, because its almost like winning the lotto. Even if its a shit job. Too many people are too fussy and end up going down because they are too proud or stubborn to do a basic shit job. A friend of mine is in that boat, he's crumbling financially, he needs to just take what he can get. I did this for nearly 15 years to survive.

One of the biggest lessons I learnt, was to never quit your job until you have found another, even if you have savings, because they go very fast if you have no job.

I can personally attest to that! Retirement savings gone and I'm from home for 14 - 15 hours per day now to make about 3/4 of what I used to earn in 8. It keeps my head above water, well, one nostril anyway if I tip my head back and cocked to the side.

Yep I agree with that too much pressure on the middle class. the working lower class get the assistance, the upper class doesn't need any help. That leaves the middle class to pickup the slack. And of course an y money the governor want to refund is always to families with kids? Why not give some back to the single folks too? A family with two working adults and two kids has more disposable income then a single working person.
