We are paying up to $1.20 a litre here. It goes as low as $1 per litre at the better end of the cycle. That's $4.53 a gallon australian on when its at its highest in the cycle.

Factor in the exchange rate that's $3.40 US dollars per gallon. Talk about price hiking.

And it costs $52 australian / $39 US for a 50 gram / 1.76 ounce pouch of tobacco. I think we are possibly the highest cost for cigs in the world. The government is continuing to increase taxes on it.

I think we get cheaper power than you guys do though. My 3 monthly bill is around $500-$550 australian / $375-$412 US running the a/c as much as I want in summer and the WOPL/CCTV/2x UPS 24/7.

My bill last month was $400 (and we heat with wood mainly...). This is in part because we were not in the house for over 3 months while it was being remodeled so had to use the baseboard heating for 3 months to keep the plants warm and pipes from freezing. Even when we don't our bill averages $250. I hate CL&P, freaking thieves

Depends upon hot many square feet you are heating and cooling and of course the climate of your area. My average electricity bill runs about $45 a month and in summer with the A/c on it runs closer to $80 to $100 a month for the three months it needs to be used. My Natural Gas Bill runs about $25 to $30 a month for 9 months of the year and $75 to $100 a month for the three winter months when heating is needed. I heat and cool 1322 SQ feet of living space.

They are playing the game of ramping up 'fixed' charges no matter what we use here. They have lowered the Kilowatt per hour rate by about 6 cents though. I'm accustomed to paying $80au every 2 weeks to keep the bill paid off properly. I can't put a price on comfort as I hate the heat, most of it is cooling for me. In the winter most of the audio gear and electronics keeps inside 4-10 celcius warmer.

I have a small 2 bedroom villa. My window a/c down stairs is too small but it is running half of the time due to faulty thermostat, this has saved a bit of power, it only draws 700-800 watts when running. Upstairs is a much larger one which I use in the sleeping room, it uses 1100 watts when running and can be left on with a couple of fans running at low speed which push the air down the stairs and helps with very hot days. I'm used to the bill and rate we get, it does seem very pricey compared to usa though.

I wish I had your power company. Our house is just under 1800sqft and is WELL insulated

Broken beyond repair but highly affable
I don't. The natural gas bill in this house ranges from ~$11-80 or so in a milder winter, and I have to leave the pilot on all year for HUD regulations. Heating is the only use of gas I have.

We still have all the hydropower dams on the lower Snake River and there is a gas-fired power plant a few miles out of town.

Some idiots thought they would scam Idahoans with a nuclear power plant scheme but they are going to jail for all of their frauds selling interest in this twice-moved, half baked scam.

It appears the market forces (manipulators?) love them some $40/barrel oil.

The new normal?

None-the-less, the divergence is good stuff.

40 makes sense to me - historically speaking -
but $3 a gallon for refined product at that level doesn't. Not in the least.

The tax component needs to go but that is wishful thinking ...
