OK...decided I may want to hook up an Ipad to the stereo for reasonable $'s (if possible).

Completely clueless on how to go about this. I know someone here can steer me into reasonable equipment and tell me how to go about this.

I'm of the mind that digital is digital - numbers don't vary and whatever is read is transmitted. Is the DAC itself enhancing the analog output?

Even cheap, cheap CDP's do an OK job with ones and zeroes, Stereophile said so. It's in the analog section that mediocrity (usually) and excellence (sometimes) lie.

Is the output digital or analog? All else follows...
Laz, I assume output from an I Pad is digital.....?
NO! If you can plug headphones into it, it's analog. If the output was digital you wouldn't hear much other than noise (and it would probably be a SPDIF connector).

You can get a digital signal out of the iPad via the connector used for charging/syncing the iPad. This digital signal can then be sent to an external DAC. Exactly how to do this is dependent on what model/generation iPad you have.
