Just happened, 10 confirmed dead at least with 20 wounded (so far), no details but shooter is in custody

This is supposed to be more of an adult type college

RIP to the victims and their families

Well, it didn't take that mother F&^%$# in the white house only a few hours to call for gun control. That man understands the bully pulpit very well. Gotta say, for an opportunist, he's TOTL...

I still want to know why we hear nothing of the toxicology reports, because THERE ARE toxicological tests being run...

I have two words for you, Lee: Manchurian Candidate, both the shooter (probably) and the Obamination in the white house (almost certainly).

Laz, it's all to coincidental. The powers that be have been at this a long time. I would not underestimate the lengths to which they would go to achieve their means. And by "they" I mean the ones who daily try to undermine our freedoms in the name of our "safety".

That would be one way to try and keep guns out of peoples hands. I'd say arm the students.

I myself am all for stricter gun control. Law abiding citizens will still be able to buy them if they want too.

Working on a college campus, I can't think of much of anything scarier than an armed 19 year old who is pissed off about a grade...

But I agree, this has to stop somewhere.
It was just a sarcastic remark and I missed the smiley. I don't think arming students is a good idea. I wish I had a solution, but it is too hard to control people with mental issues in the general population.

And that's the heart of the matter, Web. That, and to me, this weird new affection for assault weapons we seemed to have developed.

Look, I was a Tennessee state smallbore target rifle champion as a teenager, almost let the Army talk me into them making me good enough to compete in the Olympics. I've enjoyed many a bird hunt, used to be a member of the NRA when it wasn't controlled by the manufacturers. I cannot conceive of any situation that could not be successfully handled with a shotgun, pistol, or bolt action rifle. I've heard a lot of paranoid explanations, but I've yet to have anyone give me a logical reason why an assault weapon is needed in their life.

Not trying to rain on anyone's parade here, but assault weapons make no sense to me in any context other than military use. Not even police use.

If some dude is playing blitzkrieg at my college I make no qualms about the speed with which the police get here.

And on Jan. 1, 2007 there was a drive-by shooting at our property here. The cops were here in 2 minutes and the shooter was almost immediately under pursuit until he took a curve too sharply and rolled and they got him.

Those shells were military caliber and a ricochet could have took me out where I startled up after 4 hours of sleep (I was almost stranded after a New Year's party two counties out, it was icy and cold and I got home a almost 4 am).

Worked for me. The perp went to trial.

Ultimately nobody was hurt.

You make some very valid (IMHO) points there sir, I'm afraid that just one more of these idiots shooting up a public place will send the lemmings Screaming for a repeal of our 2nd amendment rights...then the SHIT will hit the fan. I don't own a gun but my 75 year old mother does and my partner has two. I wish I had a solution to this mess of unstable people with weapons but I do not....

My thoughts are more around clip capacity for weapons regardless of what it is. Weapon style makes little difference. Your basic AR-15 caliber (.223) is a sweet little varmint caliber. Assault style or kick ass long range varmint gun makes little difference. I believe the big question centers around just how many bullets you need to have under your trigger finger? After all, I have a 3 shot plug in my automatic shotguns and my hands just not big enough to comfortably wrap around a double stack 9mm. However...... it's fun as hell to empty a big clip in record time!!

The problem is people looking for attention any way they can get it. Violence is the issue here, not how it's carried out and what tools are used. The only common aspect of this is that innocents are the victims of sick people with sick views of the world or mental issues
